I received lots of messages from around the world on how to study the Bible using verses.
I.e. How to have a better understanding of a particular verse of scripture and I thought to share in this thread.
In this thread, you'll be informed on; 1. How to start studying a verse 2. How to connect it to other verses
For the purpose of this thread, we'll use Genesis 1:1 as case study.
1. CHOOSE THE VERSE!
As simple as this may sound, you have to be led by the Spirit to the right verse to study. Of course, you could also select a verse you believe you need more insight into.
Case study: Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2. FIND THE OTHER CONNECTING VERSES!
No verse in the Bible is isolated and so you need to find the other connecting verses to your selected verse.
A very good Hardcopy Bible (Rhapsody Bible) or a good digital Bible can make it easier for you.
A few tips on how to achieve this;
A. Parallel Bible – A Parallel version is a Bible that shows more than one translation side by side for comparison.
B. Study Bible - A Study Bible provides scholarly information designed to help the reader gain a better understanding of and context for the text.
C. Concordance – A Bible concordance lists Biblical words alphabetically, with indications to enable the inquirer to find the passages of the Bible where the words occur.
D. Bible Dictionary – A Bible dictionary is a reference work containing encyclopedic entries related to...
...the Bible, typically concerning people, places, customs, doctrine and Biblical criticism.
E. Bible Commentary – A Bible commentary is a written, systematic series of explanations and interpretations of Scripture.
Connecting verses: John 1:1, Hebrews 1:8-10, Psalm 33:6, 9
3. COMPILE THE INFORMATION TOGETHER!
Once you have the connecting verses, you can put the information together to give you a better view of the selected verse.
It's better to let the connecting verses help you explain the initial verse, with the help of the tips in point 2.
4. DISCUSS YOUR RESEARCH WITH OTHERS!
An important part of understanding a verse is by sharing or discussing it with others. One reason a Bible study group is relevant.
You'll find that, the more you share what you learnt, the more you receive more insight.
Know this, anyone has the ability to know the word of God for themselves.
No man has monopoly over God's word or revelation.
Take your Bible study more seriously today!
God bless you!

Matthew 4:1-11 talks about the 3 temptations of Jesus in the wilderness.
But do you know those temptations were just a refined form...
...of what happened in the garden of Eden?
Let's dig in!
The strategies of Satan hasn't changed over the period and that includes his temptations. He may disguise or refine them but it doesn't change and so Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:11 that, "Lest Satan should...
...get an advantage of us: for WE ARE NOT IGNORANT OF HIS DEVICES."
The temptations of Satan to Jesus in the wilderness is the same temptation to Adam/Eve in the garden of eden, and it's the same to man today!
Joshua 1:8 says, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt...
...make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success".
Memorizing the scriptures has a plethora of benefits but a few include;
A. Helps you exercise your mind to retain the word of God.
B. It equips you for the evil day (reference: Jesus in the wilderness).
In this thread, you'll learn very practical but simple tips and or steps to effective memorization of the scriptures.
Quick tips for anyone that wants to pray for longer!
The length you spend in prayer tells a lot about your Spiritual stamina.
It's a fact that the state of your heart is important in prayer but it's equally important the duration you spend in prayer.
If you truly understand what prayer is (fellowship with God) and its benefits, you'd stress on the importance of the length, as much as the state of the heart.
These are 5 simple but effective tips to help you stay longer in prayer.
1. Tell the Holy Spirit how long you want...
...to pray and He'll help you. He enjoys your fellowship and so He always helps you (John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth...)
2. Don't start with fresh or high energy. Start with minimal energy and you'll gradually increase it. It's a marathon not 100m race.
