Punchbowl behind the scenes: @realDonaldTrump and @GOPLeader got into a screaming match Wed as an enraged mob of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol, according to a source familiar with the episode.
@realDonaldTrump @GOPLeader McCarthy, one of the president's closest allies in Congress, demanded that Trump release a statement denouncing the mob. Initially, Trump would not agree to do it.

I get the sense that the White House has absolutely no clue the extent to which the mob riot at the Capitol has shaken the city and the country to the core. No clue. Useless. Clueless.

Lawmakers are absolutely shaken. Members of press corps going through various degrees of ptsd
USCP in massive crisis. Sergeant at arms in both chambers gone. People dead.

All after trump encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol and declared weakness wouldn’t win. All Bc he was angry he lost the election and lied about congress’s ability to change that.
They aren’t even lowering the flag for an officer who was killed defending out Capitol. What a disaster.

With America’s capital city locked down in a curfew. With heavily armed FBI agents escorting lawmakers to their chamber. With President Donald Trump’s allies abandoning him. @LindseyGrahamSC said, “Enough is enough.

Punchbowl PM: Hello, from the U.S. Capitol. At the moment of this writing, we are safe. But make no mistake: we are under siege here, and so is America.
A mob -- not protestors but an angry mob -- breached the United States Capitol after President Donald Trump urged them to march from the White House down Pennsylvania Avenue as Congress was beginning the process of certifying Joe Biden’s victory.
They pushed onto the guarded complex, breached barricades, pushed past police and later smashed windows to gain entrance to the heavily fortified Capitol.

@PunchbowlNews Loeffler and Perdue bearhugged Trump, and it looks like they both got beat. Why are Republicans acting as if ‘Trump 2024’ is a sure thing if both of his candidates got smacked around in the South and he just lost the presidency?
@PunchbowlNews BTW: Today is the first anniversary of Loeffler becoming a senator. She spent tens of millions of dollars for one year in the Senate. For a finance professional, that was a horrible investment.
