This one should be fairly short and I've got a few minutes to kill, so how about a quick bonus #LainaWatchesAnne thread?

This one is about the mini-series' fashion choices, which is always super fun.
#LainaWatchesAnne I have previously talked about the fashion and the timeline of the book in other threads and I will update the masterpost on my blog with those after this XD lainahastoomuchsparetime.wordpress.com/anne-of-green-…
#LainaWatchesAnne But to sum up, because of the date of John A. MacDonald's death, and me inferring that he's the Premier Marilla goes to see speak as Montgomery actually met him, I think Anne comes to Green Gables between 1889 and 1891.
#LainaWatchesAnne Specifically I think June 1890.

Fight me.

And here are some fashion plates and pictures to compare to what we're looking for over the general period. ImageImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne So I already talked about Anne's Christmas dress in my threads, which I wasn't a huge fan of, but I want to talk about the fashion in the rest of the movie.

Because generally? It's pretty great. There's a lot of outfits that look awesome.
#LainaWatchesAnne Like, Marilla wears pretty casual clothes a lot of the time, which makes sense as she works hard on a farm - not just around the house, either. You don't wear your fancy dress to milk cows and stuff. ImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne She's a practical lady and she works hard, and she doesn't need silly floofy clothes getting in her way.

However, when she needs to dress up, she looks very nice. ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne She also wears this outfit multiple times and why wouldn't she? There's no reason for Marilla to make herself a new outfit every year. This one is well taken care of and made to last a long time.
#LainaWatchesAnne Now, the church picnic is great for some cool fashion shots. Compare Anne with the girls around her. ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne She's perfectly neat and presentable, of course, but for a Sunday afternoon event like this, she just doesn't fit in. The colour of her dress is darker than anyone else and her clothes in general look much more functional than fashionable.
#LainaWatchesAnne (Which is exactly the point! Because that's true in the book.)

Also I love this shot. Curly, even really frizzy bangs were absolutely a trend in this time period. Image
#LainaWatchesAnne Miss Stacey also has a great wardrobe. It looks practical for teaching, but still stylish for a fairly young woman. ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne Later in the movie you see Anne wearing a very similar cameo. They are very popular and you see a lot of people wearing them, but I like to think it's Miss Stacey's influence Image
#LainaWatchesAnne This outfit was also nice, especially her cool clip-on watch.

You can still buy ones like this - they have an upside down face so you can read them easier looking down. I've heard they make good gifts for nurses. ImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne Anne's clothes are quite practical and a bit boring though the first part of the miniseries. She wears a lot of shapeless dresss with aprons over them.

This makes sense, both in-world, as Marilla makes her clothing, and out, as it helps her look younger.
#LainaWatchesAnne As she gets older, so do her clothes.

I actually really like this outfit. Cute and cozy, do approve. Image
#LainaWatchesAnne But post-Christmas dress, her outfits get much more fashionable (even soaking wet). ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne I also love this outfit and how adult Anne looks in it. She looks like a Proper Lady. ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne Also let's focus for a moment on this picture in particular. Do you see how Gilbert is slumping forward, but Anne is sitting so straight? That is the foundation garment (the corset) doing its job. And that's why they're important to the look of a movie.
#LainaWatchesAnne Also the shop clerk is always styling ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne The only other dress of Anne's I really am not a hug fan of is her White Sands concert dress. Mostly it's pretty good, but the sleeves again just look off to me. Image
#LainaWatchesAnne I think it's how they stuff them. It looks kind of like they're using something like a synthetic pillow stuffing and maybe even overstuffing them?

Check out this blog post where someone makse their own and compare the shape sewstine.com/2020/04/07/my-…
#LainaWatchesAnne Also this Hark a Vagrant! comic is hilarious Image
#LainaWatchesAnne Lightning round!

Mrs Spencer looks really good! Josie Pye's dress is kind of weird! Mrs Allan looks great! ImageImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne Alice Bell's hair actually looks really nice, DIANA! The hair in general in this is good! Especially these frizzy bangs. Aunt Josephine is an icon! ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne And finally, some random shots out of outfits I thought looked cool! ImageImageImage
#LainaWatchesAnne Also they wear a lot of boater hats, which were totally in style. And in the right spots, too. (I believe the people who do trendy fashion things nowadays wear the hats much further back. I am not a trendy fashion person, so.)
#LainaWatchesAnne All in all, the fashion in this is great. Clearly a lot of work and research went into it and it looks cohesive and pretty historically accurate as far as my non-expert self can tell.

And people wear corsets!!! Which is such a pet peeve of mine when they don't.
#LainaWatchesAnne Also Gilbert wears a lot of hats.

That's, uh. Kind of all I noticed because I don't really care about masc fashion much XD
#LainaWatchesAnne Anyways, this has been a thread, I've been Laina, something something ko-fi link, you know the drill. I'm tired and I don't have the energy to do a good wrap up of this one XD

So my neighbour sent her food delivery to my apartment again which is so inconsiderate honestly. She won't tell them ONE WORD so they go to the right building instead of to my house.
The delivery guy was wearing a mask but I wasn't because I wasn't expecting anyone.

Because I was sitting in the absolutely pitch dark.

BECAUSE OUR BUILDINGS DIDN'T HAVE POWER.
So she made this dude walk up both our stairs IN THE PITCH DARK because our buildings are far back from the street and the streetlights don't reach and the building lights were obviously out AND COULDN'T EVEN GIVE HIM THE RIGHT DIRECTIONS

Okay, so I have been slightly encouraged so I think we'll do our #LainaWatchesAnne thread today. Reminder that I use that hashtag in every tweet so you can mute it if you don't want to read my tweets today. Obviously there's KIND OF A LOT going on today.
#LainaWatchesAnne But today we're actually going to hit the end of the mini-series!

Anne's home!

She and Diana continue to look like a queer cottagecore tumblr moodboard while taking a walk.
#LainaWatchesAnne Diana tells Anne that Gilbert will be getting the Avonlea school as his father can't afford to send him to college. He plans to earn his way through college teaching. Good for you, Gil.

Okay! I think it's FINALLY time to get back into this!

So, remember last year when I started my project to read and analyze LM Montgomery's catalogue and the adaptations based on those works but then I had a hard summer and then the holidays happened and then I broke my spine?
Probably you don't!

So if you need to catch up, you can find my masterlist of posts here where I've posted them from Twitter lainahastoomuchsparetime.wordpress.com/anne-of-green-…
The Anne of Green Gables recaps start here lainahastoomuchsparetime.wordpress.com/2019/02/02/ann…

I also suggest checking out the post where I talk specifically about fashion in Anne lainahastoomuchsparetime.wordpress.com/2019/09/14/lai…

And we previously discussed the 1934 Anne of Green Gables movie https://t.co/xgAPJkYfSK

Are y'all ready for a different sort of #LainaReadsAnne thread? Today we're going to be trying to figure out the time period that Anne of Green Gables is set in and talking about the fashion of that time.
#LainaReadsAnne This is going to be a multi-part thread with a lot of images. Seriously, I have like 10 pages of notes and a LOT of pictures bookmarked.

So I'm gonna ask y'all to be patient with the speed on this one, okay?
#LainaReadsAnne Let's start with what we know about the time period of Anne of Green Gables. (Not any of the sequels - in this thread, I will be treating AOGG as a standalone work.)

First, Montgomery wrote it in 1906 so it can't be any later than that.

Alright, it's time for our fourth and final thread on the 1934 Anne of Green Gable movie. Y'all ready? #LainaWatchesAnne
#LainaWatchesAnne So when last we left Anne, she'd almost drowned and then decided to forgive Gilbert Blythe because he saved her life and the movie basically forgot the book existed. We also learned a year had passed since the hayride. The time passage was SUPER clear.
#LainaWatchesAnne By the way, we're a bit over an hour into the movie, which is an hour and eighteen minutes long. Are you... sensing a problem here?

Ready for our third 1934 #LainaWatchesAnne thread? Today's gonna be a doozy.
#LainaWatchesAnne The day after the slate smashing, Anne is churning butter outside by the tree bench where Diana is sitting and making I think a beaded necklace or bracelet. It's a bit hard to see.
#LainaWatchesAnne Diana says she should have told Anne that Marilla didn't like Gilbert and that it's not his fault.

Brace yourself for this one because I don't think you're ready for it.
