I’ll also add the AIDS epidemic and the Rwandan genocide, as well as the Rodney King beating and subsequent LA Riots. Can’t believe I left those out of the first list.
Yeah for sure. The early 90s were wild, as were the early 00s, but the Trump era (and specifically the past 12 months) is all of that cranked to 11.
To put it into context: All previous US U-20 teams combined had one player (Jozy) who'd ever scored a goal in the MLS playoffs. This team could have 3.
Could also have a guy w/ a bunch of Copa Lib starts, attackers who've played for Arsenal & Barca, and Gio Freaking Reyna.
A RB who's already been sold for $2-7m to a Bundesliga side is probably third on the depth chart behind a regular starter in MLS and a guy who's about to be sold for ~$10m to Juve or Roma.
Starting LB who's going to go for something in that vicinity as well.
Armchair Analyst: Lots of folks are rightly going *in* on the #USMNT, Berhalter & the USSF as a whole.
On a more granular level I'm taking a look at what went wrong with this team last night – and what will keep going wrong until/unless it gets fixed mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/1…
The number of times the US were out-manned 4-v-2 in central midfield last night was mind-boggling. It is the root of everything that's going wrong for the US right now, and – no matter who the coach is – it has to change.
The truly awful thing is that this wasn't even one of the 5 worst losses of the decade: 5. USA 1-2 JAM (2015 Gold Cup) 4. JAM 2-1 USA (2014 WCQ) 3. GUA 2-0 USA (2018 WCQ) 2. CRC 4-0 USA (2018 WCQ) 1. T&T 2-1 USA (2018 WCQ)
