LAFC play the best soccer I've ever seen from an MLS team.
1998 DC, 2001 Fusion, 2010 RSL & 2018 Atlanta are the others in the discussion btw.
Since folks are asking: 2000 Fire, 2014 Galaxy, 2017 TFC & NYCFC are a half-step below.
Yup, it’s hard to win trophies. Over the past 5 years especially we’ve seen more teams play better soccer and build smarter, better rosters.

So any time any MLS team does win a trophy these days, their fans are right to be as obnoxious as hell about it.

Jimmy Stewart really chewed the scenery in the last act here tbh.
The theme of this movie is the only way to stop a bad guy with capitalism is a good guy with capitalism.

The 2021 U-20 World Cup got cancelled today, which is almost certainly the right move from FIFA.

But as a USYNT-obsessive a part of me is disappointed b/c the US is FREAKING STACKED among the 2001s, 02s & 03s.

Que sera sera.
To put it into context: All previous US U-20 teams combined had one player (Jozy) who'd ever scored a goal in the MLS playoffs. This team could have 3.

Could also have a guy w/ a bunch of Copa Lib starts, attackers who've played for Arsenal & Barca, and Gio Freaking Reyna.
A RB who's already been sold for $2-7m to a Bundesliga side is probably third on the depth chart behind a regular starter in MLS and a guy who's about to be sold for ~$10m to Juve or Roma.

Starting LB who's going to go for something in that vicinity as well.

Armchair Analyst: Lots of folks are rightly going *in* on the #USMNT, Berhalter & the USSF as a whole.

On a more granular level I'm taking a look at what went wrong with this team last night – and what will keep going wrong until/unless it gets fixed
mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/1…
The number of times the US were out-manned 4-v-2 in central midfield last night was mind-boggling. It is the root of everything that's going wrong for the US right now, and – no matter who the coach is – it has to change.
The truly awful thing is that this wasn't even one of the 5 worst losses of the decade:
5. USA 1-2 JAM (2015 Gold Cup)
4. JAM 2-1 USA (2014 WCQ)
3. GUA 2-0 USA (2018 WCQ)
2. CRC 4-0 USA (2018 WCQ)
1. T&T 2-1 USA (2018 WCQ)

I finished my #USMNT rewatch:

• Team selection is the core issue right now. Trapp, Zardes & maybe Boyd (still want to see more) aren't up to the level that's needed in these games
• Could see immediate improvement re: attacking combo play when Sargent replaced Gyasi
• Zimmerman has been poor since Gold Cup. Not sure what happened b/c he was so good before that.
• None of the CBs was able to dip their shoulder and carry past the pressing Mexican front line. Didn't happen a single time all game long.
• I am legit concerned about Weston McKennie, who's gifted but still so scattershot & naive re: how he brings those gifts to bear. Need Wagner to spend a lot of time molding him
• Pulisic played hard but was selfish & slow of thought (37th min non-breakaway, late overlap)

I understand @BrianSciaretta's take on this (the USYNT has capped these kids repeatedly at multiple age levels) as well as Belz's (in the new social media era we have to recruit every single dual national – take nothing for granted). They both make good points.
But the overall point, as I see it: Shouldn't the #USMNT GM (or someone in the program) be checking in with our best players at all age groups on the regular as a matter of course? Shouldn't that be part of the job description?
Email: "Hey Julian, Earnie here. Great performance vs. LAFC – we like what we're seeing from you. Here's where we see you fitting in the future, and here's what we want you to work on. We'll check in again soon."

Gonna put together a little thread:

I'm stoked for this #USYNT at the U-20 World Cup. I think the team that @RamosTab brought is filled with high-upside players, many of whom have the ability to bigger and better things than the cohorts and generations that've come before.
I am particularly high on Chris Richards, a former FC Dallas academy CB who was sold to Bayern Munich last year for about 1.25 million before he'd ever played a pro game.

His passing is so smooth – the ball travels like it's on a pool table.
Paxton Pomykal – you know him if you watch any @MLS. He's another @FCDallas academy kid, and at the pro level I don't think the US has ever produced a more complete CM (or winger, where he'll play today).

Mature. Affects the game on both sides of the ball
