As of yesterday, 44,994 doses of vaccine have been administered across the province, giving a rate of 1,017.5 doses per 100,000 as we continue to ramp up immunization efforts. (3of4)
Please continue to follow current health measures in place: wear a mask in all indoor public settings and keep social gatherings to members of the same household. (4of4)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB update: Over the last 24 hrs we have identified 639 new cases of COVID-19 & and completed about 9,800 tests. Our positivity rate is at 6.1%. There are 811 people in hospital, incl 130 in ICU. (1/8)
Sadly, 23 new deaths were reported. My deepest condolences go to the family and friends of these individuals. We will resume reporting on school cases later this week. Our overall numbers underline the importance of the immunization program that is underway. (2/8)
Canada has one of the most robust regulatory systems for new vaccines in the world. Clinical trials with tens of thousands of participants from multiple countries found no safety concerns w/ the vaccines we are administering. We are not taking that for granted. (3/8)

We have seen a decrease in the spread of COVID-19 since the restrictions were implemented in early December - a testament to the hard work and sacrifice of many. However, the spread of the virus is still very high in our province. (2/8)
We still average well over 1,000 new cases daily. Lower than the 1,877 on Dec. 7, but still too high. There are now more than 13K active cases in AB, down from Dec. 13 when there were more than 21,000 cases, but still far from the 1K-2K cases through summer/early fall. (3/8)

Early on in planning for #COVID19AB immunization, @AHS_media was asked to devise a strategy to ensure that vaccine wastage was minimized. This is in place & working well (2/5)
The vaccine cannot be re-frozen or put in a fridge. Doses are thawed according to pre-scheduled appointments. Appts are overbooked to ensure that workers are always in line. If no appointments are left but doses available, on-site staff are immunized to prevent waste. (3/5)

Here is a summary of today’s #COVID19AB numbers. Over the past 24 hrs, 1,128 new cases were reported & 11.9K tests were completed. This brings our total number of tests to 2,847,016. Currently, there are 13,839 active cases across Alberta. (1/5)
On Jan. 2, 459 new cases were ID’d & 8.1K tests completed. 30 deaths were reported. On Jan. 1, 933 new cases were ID’d, 12.7K tests completed & 12 deaths were reported. On Dec. 31, we ID’d 1,361 new cases, conducted 16K tests & 10 deaths were reported. (2/5)
On Dec 30, we ID’d 1,226 new cases, completed 16.8K tests & 17 deaths were reported. There are currently 905 people in hospital w/ 136 in ICU. I’m sad to report 27 more deaths reported to us on Jan.3, I extend my condolences to families & friends mourning a loved one. (3/5)
