I’m watching people on Newshour slow talk me about how Trump will be eschewed by financiers and the wealthy. I find a reason to use “Rolodex” again. A presidential Rolodex owned by a fool is worth a lot to many people.
That was literally the whole point. It’s the point for all of them, fwiw. But only a few of them will monetize it to the extent that this fool will do.
The best worst case scenario will be just suing him forever but no one has that kind of fortitude. He will be back on the party scene with the rest of them within a year.
And I had to mute the tv. I watch PBS so I don’t have to hear rich people give details about probates and inheritances. I hate that kind of talk. Who should care but the one inheriting???
Probably just tanked my chances of ever being headhunted by an elite right there. LOL the whole job of a born-poor person invited to elite institutions to listen to them go on about inheritances.

Anybody else watching the PBS American Masters about Black women actresses?
“Julia” used to make my mother cry damn near every episode.
Bruh, “Sounder”. So we gonna run a movie and tv show marathon of some of this work? Just program a whole @netflix queue for me.

The post-instagram, hot girl, plastic dolls, late stage/neo neo-liberal capitalism Black feminist tensions in an R&B register might be a first? First major anyway. I am admittedly old and cannot say for sure.
I literally do not know how Black women and femmes are surviving it. I worry.

I remember trying to pay my RAs more than $12 an hour and VCU HR pushing back hard. Said it would set a bad standard. From above and below.
My point is that our academic labor “market” is heavily subsidized and we act like it isn’t to feel more moral than our actions.

Man wrote the perfect Tressie bait of a tweet, I tell ya what.
Far too early in my academic career, I questioned if network theory was robust enough to model racial discrimination. Pissed off many real academics.
Later I would understand why. It was a philosophical question, not a sociological one. It is basically this: what if this is the best networks can do?

Oh! Please let me academic hijack. :) perceived status is about extrapolating from minorities they see. But what Elijah Anderson called the cosmopolitan canopy is fragile and arguably greatly diminished by another cultural institution: the media.
A lot of the perception of racial status is mediatized. News enclosures have amplified this.
And then there is a psychological element. People can be exposured to the same data, same images and have very different perceptions of their own status and the status of others
