Get blocked by the entirety of #R#E#S#I#S#T# Twitter for displays of realism instead of prematurely triumphant delusions.
So Trump’s planning on starting the “Patriot Party,” eh?
I’m sure that’s not an open call to the militia types that ever could possibly be misinterpreted and exacerbate a lot of problems that are definitely over once Biden’s in power.
Allow me to clarify: #R#E#S#I#S#T# Twitter isn’t “the left.”
I use that for the hyper vocal crowd who sees Trump as the ultimate cause of our problems. That’s really dangerous.
Don’t mind me. I’m just cranky cause I was up super late finishing an article on the pervasive threat of white supremacist infiltration across the military and law enforcement over the last 5+ decades + total leadership inaction which is actually horrifying so um yes I’m cranky.
Sigh. Let me try this again.
Celebrating is good. Happiness is great. But I’m afraid of complacency.
I’ve spent well over a decade trying to prevent us from getting where we currently are, and complacency is one reason we did.
Temper that premature triumphalism is my point, people.
DHS caved to political pressure and closed the office responsible for monitoring white supremacist threats under Obama, after all.
Our serious problems demand bipartisan critique, detached from presidential personality.
Our issues are so deeply rooted, bipartisan, and systemic that “we need untempered celebration now” almost reminds me of the relief felt by an abuse victim when the abuser apologizes with flowers and promises to change.
It’s a survival strategy, yes, but it’s also a trap.
PS: if you’re upset over what I said because you desperately want to enjoy a fleeting moment of normalcy, I do too.
Tweeting that stuff is also a reminder to myself.

We could all use some hope at the moment, so I wanted to share a (very unexpected) message I just received.
People can change.
And we can’t afford to forget that, especially right now.
That particular kill list cost me nearly everything, quite literally.
I’m a lot angrier at the non-Nazis who punished me for risking my life than I am at the Nazis that made it.
And I’m thankful to the person who wrote this apology, and immensely thankful they got out.
I’m actually a bit emotional now, given what that kill list did to my life, so I’m going to log off.
But:
I’m so grateful for the desperately needed reminder that what we do is worth the personal toll and high cost. Someone broke free - and that’s the best gift I could get.
Never trust a neo-Nazi claiming overnight ‘reformed’ while facing legal charges, especially those who use that claim for sweet, sweet ‘deradicalization’ money.
Another tell:
True ‘formers’ don’t expect you to believe or accept them, and don’t seek rewards for doing the work.
Thankfully, Tom Metzger died in 2020. Great day at our house. He was one of the worst human beings imaginable.
Lest you think skinheads aren’t still a thing, to cite just one example: the perpetrator of the Oak Creek massacre at a Sikh temple was a Hammerskin (and a veteran).
Tom Metzger also - see the infiltration thread lower down on the timeline - was one of the white supremacist leaders who advocated infiltration as strategy.
He ordered boys to avoid tattoos, join law enforcement, the military, law, etc.
