As a savvy in Math, I understood that there is more depth to compound interest than learning and teaching it.
(A short thread)
Starting with time, a second is almost equal to nothing,
1million seconds is 11.57 days, 1billion seconds is 31.7 years.
Do the math for 1trillion seconds.
Nonlinear thinking is not very intuitive but can be useful if understood.
Coming to interest, first; some quick definitions.
Simple interest is interest that is paid only on the initial principal balance.
Compound interest is paid on the initial principal balance plus the accumulated interest from prior periods. You earn interest upon interest!
If a car hire company is willing to offer a high yield savings account with 10% simple annual interest on a windfall of N1million and a landed property firm offer an 8% compound annual interest on the same amount,
by simple logic, you may be tempted to opt for the car hire's offer but No, it is a short term gain.
10% simple interest will generate N100K annually (10% on N1m principal)
8% compound interest will generate N80K in the 1st year (8% on N1m principal), N86K in the 2nd year (8% on N1.08m), and so on.
By the 7th year, the landed property's offer would have leapfrogged the car hire's offer.
Do the math for succeeding years.
The key here is that with compound interest, you'll receive the rate of return on both the principal and the accumulated interest.
This is the simplest best way to build long term wealth.
Whether with savings, investments or knowledge, let it compound.
There is power in compounding.
Little wonder, Albert Einstein emphasized that "Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't pays it".
Compound interests glow when you own assets. Depreciation strikes when you have liabilities.
WHAT ARE YOUR PRIORITIES?
DO YOU OWN ASSETS OR LIABILITIES?
COMPOUNDING IS A GREAT LEVERAGE TO GENERATE LONG TERM WEALTH!
Yes, 2020 has been a turbulent year but the menace associated with the Nigerian saga has nothing to do with the calendar year. Nigeria's present administration is a tale of insensitivity, wickedness and a high level of incompetence.
Six years ago, it was #BringBackOurGirls. The previous administration was castigated and labelled a failure. Till today, some of the abducted Chibok girls are nowhere to be found. The new hashtag is now #BringBackOurBoys.
Peaceful #EndSARS protests were disrupted by the #LekkiTollGateMassacre in October. Few days ago, over 40 farmers were beheaded in cold blood in a gruesome #ZabarmariMassacre and now, over 600 Kankara students are nowhere were kidnapped right under the nose of the president.
As a student of the Word and a teacher of teens, I've discovered that it's way easier to build strong children than to repair broken teenagers.
In my little experience, I've had tough times drilling wayward teenagers and I blame this on gruesome and careless upbringing.
If you aspire to be one in nearest future or you're a parent of young folks under 18, you may find this piece invaluable;
In a world where hustling is glorified and raising children is seen as mundane, remember that your children are your reward and not your worldly success (Ps. 127:3).
What does it profit you if you lose your children and gain the world?.
Shame and temptation only grow in loneliness and silence.
Think about the anxiety that accompanies the burden of secrecy, the self-hatred after another failed attempt to say "No", the apologies that feel less and less genuine and the promises that hold less and less power.
Many jobs are on the verge of complete automation because of the growing effect of Artificial Intelligence on human labour.
The newspaper is almost dead. Traditional media is suffering as the internet is eating up everything. You no longer need to get your news from the papers, you can get them via twitter or life stream as they're happening in real time.
Traditional magazines are fighting for their lives not to survive competitively but to survive as a whole.
Information is free and there are few publishers where the trust in their brand is enough to keep them going.
Teachers help students to find important things they've lost everyday. Sometimes, it's a paper, backpack or jacket....other times, it's courage, confidence or a smile. #TeachersDay
I was privileged to sit under the umbrella of amazing teachers through the course of my life, so when teachers lament in this country, it pricks me... #TeachersDay2020
not just because I love to do same but because I hold those personalities in high esteem, especially those who show moral examples and do not abuse their students.
This is my Country!
A nation with abundant natural resources.
Her most diverse feature is her people, a nation with over 207M people and over 250 ethnic groups.
Her natural talents grit with passion but her people have lost their belief in her. Her cracks are widening and the anger of her people is rising by the day.
Her heritage is no longer cherished.
The age of her treasure, worth of her people and the glimpse of her colour are no longer sparkling to the admiration of the world.
The value of her currencies keep depreciating and the price of her commodities keep inflating.
