One year ago today, my kids received CoVID care packages from Dad. N99 masks, contactless thermometers, nitrile gloves, ABHR, & $$$ for grocery stockup. They added this to the Air Disinfectors & Ultrasonic Humidifiers (w silver & UV water protection) they received at Christmas.
As an “armchair epi” who had lived thru SARS, it was easy to see this was SARS2, it was airborne, & it was coming soon to a place near you. Why couldn’t “real Epis” & PH & ID & IPC & WHO & western governments see this? Where is the Precautionary Principle?
Why are we not following the SARS Commission Report recommendations?
Why are we not following CSA National Standard for respirators? (Min N95s)
Why do we not have enough N95s after 1 year?
Why did influential voices say “Don’t wear a mask” to the public?
Why are many influential voices still fighting the important public health term “airborne” after a year when “Airborne Precautions” are desperately needed?
And why are they STILL influential?
Why have western governments resisted #COVIDzero measures when people ARE the economy? There are plenty of examples in Asia, NZ, & Australia where a COVIDzero policy works.
Why do we rely almost exclusively on vaccines to save us? They will always lag onset, & are only effective for one organism one time.
Why do we continue to ignore engineering measures that can protect us from all pathogens for all time BEFORE outbreak?
Why do we continue to ignore RH of indoor air when 50% RH can ⬇️⬇️ airborne transmission of CoVID as well as virtually eliminate seasonal flu?
Why do many continue to propagate ancient dogma in medicine? #COVIDisAirborne. So are most other diseases originally misclassified as “Droplet”. When can we drop “Droplet” from the lexicon? When can we eliminate “Droplet Precautions” in favor of “Airborne Precautions”?
When is the medical community going to recognize that scientists & engineers & industry providing analysis & solutions to environmental(air, water & surface) transmission of disease is NOT epistemic trespassing-it’s their job! @jljcolorado@ShellyMBoulder@linseymarr@kprather88
When is @WHO finally going to publicly retract their March 28th statement that “CoVID is NOT airborne”?
When are hospitals and LTC providers going to provide N95s to all HCWs?
A year later, I see a disaster that could have been avoided, I see those in positions of authority who deny science & reality are still there. There is lip service now, a Hail Mary vaccine effort & hope for the future. But action would be better.

SARS taught us lessons. Then we forgot them | The Star
The precautionary principle was a “key lesson” from SARS that Ontario failed to heed, says Mario Possamai, who advised Campbell on the SARS Commission. thestar.com/news/canada/20…
In his October 2020 report “A Time of Fear,” he details how Canada’s failure to employ the precautionary principle endangered health workers, who made up nearly 20 per cent of Canada’s cases in late July — twice the global average.
Back when little was known about COVID-19, Possamai says we should have been protecting against airborne transmission by mandating health workers wear N95s and ramping up air purification and ventilation systems in facilities like hospitals, schools and long-term-care homes.
