"Using the law to mandate who can claim Indigenous ancestry is a slippery slope - The Globe and Mail": theglobeandmail.com/arts/article-l…
Really, the law is who mandated them from their Indigenous identity to begin with in most cases.
I don't think this is an appropriate metaphor at all and I think it is more of a case of you twisting the data to fit your narrative. Using words like "pretendian" is harmful and hurtful , you do not know these peoples connections, genealogies or communities.
Pretty colonial definition on who is Indigenous. How about those NonStatus who have yet to be fderally recognized? What you are forgetting to mention in this whole argument, is those who think they are golden ones who get to identity police are only so because they have been
approved by the federal government or they would be in the exact same situation, of the people you are talking about. There is no magical formula on who is Indigenous and who isn't , it is well documented that some people are just not recognized because there were not there
the day the Indian agent took band lists. Now we use contemporary band lists who the federal government says is Indigenous recognized and who isn't , not the Nation itself. Let's be real here. The Government also used
enfranchisement and assimilation to cut Indigenous people from those lists. White women who married Indigenous were on those lists as Indigenous and Indigenous women who married white or moved off reserve lost that same entitlement to Indigenous status. Now you want to set up a
system to further ostracize these people from trying to re-connect to their cultures and communities? You call that reconciliation? I call that a good recipe to make sure there are more disconnected women and children who make it on the MMIW list. Who the hell is Tamara Bell to
think she can police Indigenous Identity? She personally knows all communities, their circumstances, their histories and stories? How they have been marginalized by the gov to be nonexistent Indigenous people who are lost and trying to find their connections again per their
International human legal right, through UNDRIP @TheDHTaylor .. You have a white Non-Indigenous professor @DarrylLeroux, working with Kim Tallbear who isn't even Canadian , policing Indigenous Identities. Do you see how insidious that is? They follow no Indigenous research
protocols that have been put in place to protect these marginalized people and communities. Just because someone does not have a status card and is not yet recognized, does not make them less Indigenous to Turtle Island.
personally I think this messy metaphor covers Darryl just nicely. He is a white man in a powerful position passing judgement using other people who have been 'Lucky" enough to have been on that band list that day, to make them seem legitimately "more" Indigenous and oh so ready
to pass judgement on other Indigenous people. Unless you are going to do this on a "case by case" basis, who is going to "card" all these people. Who is going to check into their histories, stories, cultures and call judgement, on people who may not even be from your own nation?
What about "hidden communities" such as Powley? Who would have spoke up for Steve Powley and his community? A tortured people-the politics of colonization - Howard Adams -1995- hidden history- it is this type of censorship that allows the colonizer and the academics to dominate
and propagate a biased view of Indian and Metis colonial situation. Which is exactly the position we are in right now. Look at what was done to Ms Parent. Look at the degree of humiliations and public shaming that was used to discredit her, now she has done the work and
documented her lineage, how is this an appropriate response in 2020? Apparently we are going back to identity politics instead of healing communities and people, so stop with the bullshit spewing from one side of your mouth about re-claiming cultures, identities etc, while witch
hunting others who might not have quite the same supports, or community engagements to help them out for whatever reason they have lost their connections to their kin and communities.
432 rcap - Frank Palmater - aboriginal ancestry- acceptance from whose community. Frank wasn't scared to ask the hard questions, he knew that "Status Card" Indigenous were not going to claim those who may be from their nation but were not on their reserve. Didn't have those
close connections to a federally recognized Indigenous person and knew he couldn't on them to stand up and claim them . Notice what he says about "First Nations' - community acceptance will not happen in his lifetime, and it probably won't in mine either. The government uses
resources and people to further these divisions, so they don't have to acknowledge and deal with them and you just keep buying in further and further. Take a look @CrownIndigenous re-tweeting @DarrylLeroux to see the road that is going to take you down. I know it is a road of
your choosing, but some of us will make sure the truth of this is known. UNDRIP 9-11 - Read Article 9, which is why Canada so desperately wants it to be accepted under the Canadian Constitution (Then Canada can choose to ignore it and not implement it, like it does on other
Indigenous decisions, like say the Daniels case, which is why Bennet is so fond of Darryl and wants those divisions made) and not the International legal law it is ..

Oh Josh , Seb does not need to be a citizen of the Metis Nation to be Metis, we both know it and for those who don't, I will do my best to help them understand. Image
@MistahiSakhikan For starters Josh, MNC who represents the Red River Metis Nation is only 1 of the 2 National Metis organizations in Canada. The other one, until it says otherwise is the 2nd but was the first original one, who got Metis repatriated into the Canadian Constitution.
The 2 National organizations, even though only one of them is truly national are MNC and CAP. CAP who previously was known as NCC. When NCC was repatriating Metis into the 1982 Constitution, MNC was not even an organization at that time. MNC was incorporated as a non-profit Image

With my son, some of them aren't noticeable unless you are really paying attention to him, those are the motor tics, he moves his eyes a bit different, the one people notice is he constantly makes a loud throat clearing noise. Teacher thinks he needs more water. I wish it was
that simple. I hope I have explained it to him in a way that is easy for him to understand. He doesn't focus well unless it something he is passionate in and then he is almost genius like. I hope he has the tools to explain to mean kids that he can't stop making that noise which

So let me get this straight, he is getting grants from Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, so he can go around and say the people he is researching doesn't exist?? When he doesn't actually talk to the communities? Wow, wth !! @SSHRC_CRSH Image
He makes inflammatory posts like this and is to stupid to even know they are wayside crosses, not totem poles? Maybe he should research that !! - Dear Jesus !! ameriquefrancaise.org/en/article-296… Image

No, He doesn't respect research ethics on Indigenous people at all .. This is what he has done to #EasternMetis as well, are there some problematic people here who identify as Metis .. yes .. but notice he has not identified any who he doesn't consider to be fraudulent! Meme's
abound, he attacks anyone he wants to .. it is "Colonialism" 101 .. Does this look like the work of a professional with no motive?
