Oct 2003
I was a PhD student in the US.
Good with what I was doing.
This was all that I had worked towards.

But I wasn't happy.
Something was missing and I didn't know what.

It was a tough time.
I was confused.
Clueless.
Directionless.
One day, I went for a walk around the campus, with my camera.
And ending up clicking a photo.

While taking it, I had tears in my eyes.
The scene reminded me of my life.
Open fields. And yet caged.
Could see far out, but still couldn't cross. Image
It was many years later, in 2016, that I got a chance to go back to campus.
And I wondered if this spot still existed.
It has been 13 years.

Vaguely remembering the route, I got to the parking lot.
Walked up to the point.
And there it was.
JUST THE SAME
As if nothing had changed
I was instantly transported to that day in 2003.

At the age of 23
Clueless
Directionless
Open, yet caged.

And there was only 1 wish I had at that moment.
I wish I could back to the 23 year old Ankur and tell him
"You are going to be ok"
I know what it is to be confused in life.
To be doing what you had worked towards, and yet not be happy.
To not have any goal, any target, any direction.

And if you are going through the same, I can imagine how it must feel.
The only thing I can tell you, that I wish for you to hear right now, is that
"You are going to be ok"

15 things I wish I was told, when I was in my 20s

A thread...
1.
Your grades in college are not going to define your life.
The first company you work for is not going to define your life.
Your first pay package is not going to define your life.
2.
Who and why you decide to spend your life with - is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your life.

Don't take it lightly.

20 uncomfortable truths about life

A thread...
Uncomfortable Truth 1:
Life has no purpose.
We came from nothing. And once we are gone there will be nothing.
No one will remember us beyond a few years or decades.
And yet we will spend every second of our life wondering what people think of us!
Uncomfortable Truth 2:
Where you were born, who you were born to and when you were born, has the highest correlation to where you will end up in life.
Your opportunities, your privileges, your worldview, all stemmed from this lucky event that you had no role to play with.

20 lies that the world feeds us everyday

A thread...
Lie 1:
If you don't settle in your 20s, you are gone!
This is the decade.
You don't get another chance.
Study fast, get a job, get married, kids, that car, that house.
Quickly!
Time's running.
Look at everyone else doing it!
Lie 2:
People who are poor are lazy.
People who are rich are hardworking.
It is your fault if you haven't made it in life.
Look at everyone else who made it.
There is nothing granted or gifted in life.

No one is going to do it for you

A thread...
As a founder, if you won't show up every single day, despite how you are feeling, or how the startup is doing or what the press is writing about you, or your cofounders not working out, or your product failing or your customers shouting

No one is going to do it for you
As a student, if you won't do things that scare you, that make you feel nervous, that challenge you, that intimidate you, that you have always wanted to do but never gathered the courage to

No one is going to do it for you

How I created content in 2020

A thread...
Back in Aug 2016, I started creating content to share my experiences as an entrepreneur.
Over 3 years I had put out 1,200+ hours of content - posting every week without fail.

Little did I know that something I started almost 4 years back would give my life an entirely new direction.

At the end of 2019, my biggest platform was LinkedIn with ~700K followers.

In Jan 2020, I decided to build a team that would help me with the content.
