Cognitive disabilities are so complex and personal. Broad and varied: memory, bipolar, attention deficit, etc. What if look at cognitive skills rather than disabilities? #ATIA2021

Look at accommodating attention, long and short memory, logic and reasoning, language processing, math, etc. #ATIA2021

Have to focus on attention before think about processing, let alone memory. #ATIA2021

What does AT need to work? Informed users! They need to know the tools are there and how to work them. Especially important for people who become disabled later in life—harder to know what is available. #ATIA2021

I love this checklist for east to read content! This format helps EVERYONE comprehend better than paragraphs ans walls of text. #ATIA2021

Most people prefer 60 character lines—easier to read for many. Ragged right lines best as well—justified creates uneven white spots through the text. Hard to read. #ATIA2021

Centered text also hard—brain has to find new starting space on next line. Easier to skip and miss lines. So stick with left justified and right ragged. Redoing some program flyers this week! #ATIA2021

So: try to allow user to select their font. Firefox and edge let you change font on any website. Chrome requires an extension. Chat people seem to love Edge, I’m a little shook. #ATIA2021

Microsoft has readability stats and will check readability every time you run spelling/grammar, have to turn it on. Tells ease, grade level, etc. I’d forgotten this! I use docs so often now. #ATIA2021

Watson Tone Analyzer is web based—paste content, select format, etc. Interesting. #ATIA2021

I really need to use Hemingway app more. I know I write so wordily. :( my colleague in communications does add a lot of these readability tricks to my weekly literacy posts, and I need to work with her to do it from the start. #ATIA2021

The Web Accesibility Guidelines 3.0 are in draft, with a cognitive and learning disabilities task force! Time to go far past accessibility just for blind people and those who can’t use mice. This is so exciting! #ATIA2021
