Everyone feels good when there’s a way to say DONE. It’s so important to mark that meaningfully for each task for each student. All children benefit from visuals in new experiences. These accommodations aren’t just for autistic students. #atia2021

YES. I tell all caregivers to label around the house. NOT as flash cards!!! But to have a print rich house that you reference during your day. Connect print to meaning! #atia2021

Read everything. YES. Again, we tell caregivers that all reading is good reading. Turn on closed captioning! Thats reading! This librarian is cheering. :) #atia2021

This maybe isn’t the best session for me as I nod along energetically, ha. I love all these tips and suggestions. Oh, @possbeth suggested book and tv reviews are great writing prompts because they share their opinions. Love it. Dictate those stories! #atia2021

Fine motor around the house—raw spaghetti fed through holes in upside down strains. Write in shaving cream. Tweezers to pick up items. Love this. Math—how many forks needed? Meatballs per dish? #atia2021

Play restaurant and have kids place orders/fill orders with simple things like sandieixhes and English muffin pizza came up in the chat—love this! It feels like something out of my Mr Rogers Plan and Play book. #atia2021

KIDS NEED MOVEMENT. (So do adults working from home, ha). Recess, gym, transitioning to therapies—it adds up. Needs to be replicated in any home environment. Heavy workload movements: carry heavy bag to other room, etc. Yoga. Wiggles. Count stretches for math. #atia2021

Use functional life skills as motor, counting, etc. these tasks can be educationally meaningful. #atia2021

I can’t wait until we can do supported cooking in the library again. I want to incorporate more of these. Especially doubling recipes and choosing what to make. Oh a kid made his own YT cooking channel!! Yes!! #atia2021

Games, puzzles. Take turns, different methods, make decisions. Learning really is everywhere. I love this so much. I can’t wait to share ideas with our caregivers. Go outside, take pictures, birdwatching. #atia2021

Make and draw your own puzzles with inside of cereal boxes! Talk about snowman body parts, ha. #atia2021

Even remotely, model mask wearing and share social stories. Wear masks in certain activities, marked in a calendar or schedule. Same with hand washing—maybe Carter each activity. Yeah, this is going to be important for a long time coming. #atia2021

Parents did not go to school to be teachers. Communicate early and often. How do they take and share data? This is not their norm. Support them, too. They need the support to support their kids in this new environment. #atia2021

Some people in chat own 75-150 fabric masks and I am jealous. I only have 5, because I am still sheltering and only visiting medical places. I will have to up my game after vaccinations and when I can go back into the library! #atia2021

Support caregivers in turning daily routines into educational experiences. It’s so hard to find time and energy these days more than ever. But if you can build small things into things you’re doing anyway, that’s great. Gosh, I loved this session. #atia2021
