HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE drama—Oklahoma Attorney General is attempting to return a $2 million stockpile of HCQ—drug once touted by Trump as way to treat #COVID19. OK criticized for $2 million purchase, a move to curry favor with Trump. HCQ work for COVID? No! 🧵

2) I feel like I’ve spend years of my life debunking HCQ.

Master thread 🧵 below.
3) the RECOVERY trial not only found no benefit, but the risk was leaning even towards higher risk.
4) There was even a trial to prevent onset of #COVID19 after exposure. Big nothing.
5) What about HCQ prevention? Nope.

📍NOTA BENE—Don’t be deceived if you see nobody in a room. CO2 levels can still be high if room is poorly ventilated. Remember #SARSCoV2 aerosols can stay airborne from 20 min-16 hours in stagnant air. CO2 is the easiest metric to tell you it’s stagnant. #COVIDisAirborne #COVID19
2) This is especially also important in public bathrooms. You may think you’re alone but toilet 🚽 plumes are real. And toilet flushing are well known powerful aerosolization devices. And in th US, most public bathrooms don’t have toilet lids (aka toilet mask).
3) How is aerosol different from large droplets? aerosol study indicates that coronavirus is persistent and stable up to 16 hours in stagnant air. Typical air exchange every 20 min to 4 hrs, depending on ventilation. #COVID19

GREAT NEWS—Biden’s Labor Department issued guidance that would allow sick employees to stay at home without fear of losing their jobs.

This means you cannot get fired for wanting to stay home because of #COVID19. This is huge. 🧵

2) Biden’s previous signed a EO for federally guaranteed right to decline employment that would jeopardize their health & still qualify for unemployment insurance if they do so.
3) The guidance issued by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outlines key measures for limiting the coronavirus' spread, including ensuring infected or potentially infected people are not in the workplace, implementing and physical distancing & masks.

Let this sink in—

Qanon adhering conspiracy Congresswoman MT Green thinks the Parkland school massacre that killed 17 students and teachers was fake.

But now she sits on the House Education committee.

Dystopian world. @ReallyAmerican1 #ExpelMarjorie
2) Parkland parent: “MTG, the shooting where my son was murdered protecting his students was not a ‘false flag”. Do not trivialize my son Scott’s sacrifice to save his students for your own political gain.” - Linda Beigel Schulman. (HT @MomsDemand) nymag.com/intelligencer/…

BREAKING—“NO CHOICE BUT TO ACT”—The EU 🇪🇺 has confirmed it is introducing export controls on #COVID19 vaccines made in the bloc. No exemptions for 🇬🇧—exemptions from export control include: COVAX, Switzerland, w. Balkans, Norway & North Africa. But not UK!
bbc.com/news/world-eur… Image
2) Under the new rule, vaccine firms will have to seek permission before supplying doses beyond the EU. The EU member states will be able to vet those export applications.
3) Vaccines produced by Pfizer in Belgium are currently being exported to the UK, and the EU insists that some of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in England is destined under contract for EU citizens.

BREAKING—Single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine was 72 % effective at protecting against moderate to severe illness in US, 66 % effective in Latin America & 57 % effective in South Africa. It was 85 % effective overall at preventing severe disease. #COVID19 washingtonpost.com/health/2021/01…
2) Johnson & Johnson is expected to apply for emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration next week. If the review follows the path of two earlier vaccine candidates, the shot could be authorized and available to the public by late February or early March.
3) it is 66% effective overall, which looks lower than the 95% for Pfizer and Moderna—but keep in mind those were done before the emergence of the new variants. We know South Africa variant have a lot of problems with potential vaccine escape. And Brazil variant likely too.

Scoop:💡NEW VACCINE APPOINTMENT SEARCH ENGINE💡

Vaccines save lives, but process of booking a Walgreens slot online is a “hellish experience”.

Wasted slots = longer #COVID19 pandemic.

➡️ Solution: Hackivists created a fast & easy live search engine!!!🧵

2) Nationwide, Walgreens & Duane Reed vaccine booking system sucks, says @erick_hietamaki.

On Walgreen’s sucky website, you have to pick an exact Walgreens (and only one at a time), and then pick exact date (only that date) and then a time window (only that window!!!)—ugly. Image
3) And if searching different SPECIFIC time window or date or store, you have to start all over again on Walgreens—most cumbersome site ever! if you’re not tech savvy, forget it!

Also, what if you want to check last minute openings & want to quick check for new slots?! Tough... Image
