...(high blood sugar, i.e diabetes), so he gave her Metformin and Glibenclamide, she went home, took the drugs and slept, one of her sons who was also a doctor but wasn’t in town called and asked of his mom, his brothers said she was fine, that she went to the hospital and...
the doctor gave her drugs, he asked which drugs, he was told, “metformin and glibenclamide”, he was alarmed immediately, he said their mother doesn’t have diabetes that those drugs wasn’t supposed to be given to her. He asked where their mother was, he was told she was sleeping,
...he asked them to wake her up, they tried to wake her up, but she didn’t wake, she was in “HYPOGLYCEMIC COMA” ( unconsciousness due to serious low blood sugar) before they could get her to the hospital it was too late. She died.
Now, the doctor she met in the hospital did not diagnose her properly(maybe due to faulty machine or whatsoever be the reason) and assumed she was hyperglycemic while she wasn’t and gave her drugs which are to lower the blood sugar even more
so when she took those drugs, it further reduced her blood sugar level sending her to hypoglycemic coma and death.
1. Don’t go for diabetes test after eating food which are rich in carbohydrates as it can give a false reading.
This is because carbohydrate rich foods cause a transient increase in blood sugar which clears with time, so someone running a test would think your blood sugar is actually high while in fact it is not.
2. Don’t just run a single test and assume you have diabetes. Run a 24hrs check to be sure.
3. Some medications like the corticosteroids eg Prednisolone, Dexamethasone can result in wrong readings of blood sugar level as they make the liver resistant to insulin as such cause a spike in blood sugar level.
4. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) is a deadly or even more deadly than hyperglycemia( high blood sugar).
5. Causes of hypoglycemia include
-Taking diabetes medications when you don’t have it.
-insulin overproduction in the body
-Quinine which is used to treat malaria can also lead to hypoglycemia as it stimulates the release of insulin.
-Excessive alcohol drinking.
-Certain critical illness
-Hormone deficiencies.
eg Children with too little growth hormone can develop hypoglycemia.
6. Symptoms of hypoglycemia include:

-An irregular or fast heartbeat
-Fatigue
-Shakiness
-Anxiety
-Irritability
-Tingling or numbness of the lips, tongue or cheek
-Confusion
-Seizures
-Loss of consciousness
