๐Ÿ” West Ham created space for crosses but deliveries were overhit
๐Ÿ” Liverpool used a four-diamond-two
๐Ÿ” Visitors started to enjoy more success when finding midfielders between the lines

Tactical insight into Liverpool's 3-1 win over West Ham โš’๏ธ #WHULIV ๐Ÿ”ด
๐Ÿ” West Ham set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in which Vladimir Coufal, Craig Dawson, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell formed their back four, behind Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek (1/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” They defended with a 4-4-2, via Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals withdrawing into a deeper position and Saรฏd Benrahma advancing to alongside Michail Antonio (2/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” Despite West Hamโ€™s plan to negate the numerical disadvantage in midfield being structurally sound, they struggled to cope with movements between individuals and were often played through (3/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” By their wide attackers moving infield West Ham also created space for Cresswell and Coufal to advance into, generating crossing opportunities, but those crosses were too often overhit (4/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” Liverpool were organised into a four-diamond-two formation in which Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Nat Phillips and Andy Robertson formed their back four (5/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” They defended with that same shape; Georginio Wijnaldum, Thiago Alcรกntara, James Milner and Xherdan Shaqiri formed their diamond midfield, behind Mo Salah and Divock Origi (6/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” Liverpool regularly succeeded in advancing through the wider areas, often via Shaqiri dropping towards the ball and drawing an opponent while Milner or another teammate advanced (7/8) #WHULIV Image
๐Ÿ” They also posed an increased attacking threat when they began to access their midfielders in between the lines and then looked to switch possession to a wider area (8/8) #WHULIV Image

The @academy_cv webinar, with the respected Jesse Marsch, is underway...

"There a lot of young coaches in Germany who have been influenced by Ralf Rangnick. Every coach has interpreted Ralf in their own way, but Thomas Tuchel did that really well at PSG."

#CVLiveMarsch
"I spent quite a bit of time at Leipzig when Ralph Hasenhuttl was there. He has a really good way of communicating with people, and of investing in relationships. At moments like this that's what becomes important. Managing difficult moments."

#CVLiveMarsch
"I've often get the question 'How do you get your team to buy in to the way you want to play?'. There's two ways you create that โ€“ your tactical details, and the mentality.

"I [also] learned a lot from Ralf and how Germans use vocabulary to make things simple."

Jรผrgen Klopp doesn't expect Virgil van Dijk to play again this season. Our coaches look at how big of a miss he is for both Liverpool's defence and attack ๐Ÿ”ด #LFC
Van Dijkโ€™s role for Liverpool is that of a leader. Despite being right-footed, he plays on the left side of central defence, and is perfectly comfortable there. He exudes confidence, and brings an important calming presence to the heart of Liverpoolโ€™s defence ๐Ÿ”ด #LFC
He marshals their defensive line and therefore plays a key role in Liverpoolโ€™s counter-press, pushing their aggressive, high line forwards to reduce the amount of space opponents have to play in ๐Ÿ”ด #LFC

A THREAD! ๐Ÿ‘‡ After a disjointed first season, Tanguy Ndombele is starting to show Tottenham fans glimpses of his true potential. Our coaches reveal how the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Josรฉ Mourinho's tactics have contributed to this ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท #THFC
Tanguy Ndombele struggled in his first season at Spurs, in part due to problems with his fitness but also because of their lack of a high-quality holding midfielder. There wasnโ€™t a player who could do the essentials alongside Ndombele and allow the Frenchman to thrive โšช #THFC
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, signed from Southampton, can do just that. With Hojbjerg alongside him, Ndombele has the freedom to work in the areas he is most comfortable. Spurs therefore have a player in midfield who can carry the ball forward and turn defence into attack โšช #THFC

A THREAD! ๐Ÿ‘‡ After coaching his home country, Mark Hughes became Blackburn's manager. Looking back on his time in charge, he talks about wanting to overrun teams, the physical tag his side was labelled with and going up against SIr Alex Ferguson and Josรฉ Mourinho ๐Ÿ”ตโšช #Rovers
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "When I took over, I think they were second from bottom. It was only a handful of games into the new season but it was a difficult situation โ€“ Graeme Souness had left for Newcastle and I donโ€™t think the club was quite prepared for a managerial change."

๐Ÿ”ตโšช #Rovers Image
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "The squad had a strong core of players I felt comfortable with. There was a good group of senior players โ€“ the likes of Garry Flitcroft and Brad Friedel, who was an outstanding goalkeeper โ€“ and some good young players too, and their work ethic was exceptional."
