Hi all, if you are interested in social justice and the seemingly unending onslaught of events seems to do your head in. Here are some resources, hashtags and processes I've found helpful in keeping track of what is happening around us.
1. @Article14live has tracked #sedition cases between 2010-2010 in #India. @kunalpurohit provides an in-depth overview of the use of colonial laws to suppress dissent and active requests for rights in the country. #memoryproject
3. I have been documenting the use of misogynistic language and actions used against womxn by elected members of government in India (federal, regional and local). I called it #PatriaMent. You can follow the hastag there.
4. Also, do you remember the hate trackers on @HindustanTimes and @IndiaSpend that were taken offline? This is a little RIP for databases that provided information on hate crimes that occurred over a long period of time. #memoryproject (screenshots from HT and @scroll_in )
5. @rachelchitra has been tracking #noncovid deaths during lockdown from April 6, 2020 in #India. Rachel has over 600 tweets on this. TW as these are from newspaper reportage, the stock images are often quite violent.
6. A public database of reported deaths that have happened as a result of the lockdown by Aman, Kanika Sharma, Krushna and Thejesh GN. Stolen from @suchitrav's twitter feed. #memoryproject
7. A (partial) thread on the #AntiMiscegenation ordinances in India and the push towards criminalising formal weddings between people from different religions. #liberty#memoryproject
8. A thread on a Covid-19 policy analysis project by @KingsIndiaInst and led by @louisetillin that sought to understand the regional impacts on social security, healthcare and the economy in India. #memoryproject
9. A gentle reminder of the 'voice vote' that was used in the Upper House of Parliament during the vote on #farmlaws rather than division by counting of votes which would have been clearer. #memoryproject. @TheLeaflet_in has a great article on it. theleaflet.in/how-voting-to-…
13. @policychettan has a twitter thread on draft bills and policies in India that are open for comments and suggestion. It's an excellent means of adding your voice to legislation before it is rolled out. #memoryproject
15. This is a thread on ARCHIVING violent digital posts (twitter/fb/websites) before reporting them and collecting that information. The revolution will need proof and we will provide receipts.
16. @HasibaAmin has created a thread on the chronology of covid19 in India. This is an increadible reminder of the paucity of action from the federal government right from feb 2020
17. The #TarunTejpal judgment has moved all kindsss of anger in me and while I'd like to have a collective howl to deal with the pain, I'm doing the virtual version of collective anger. #MetooIndia
The Harvard letter is a reminder that critical thinkers believe in the criticality of critical thinking only if it doesn't upset their worldview, power and convenience.
did Raya Sarkar ever get an apology for all the misogynist casteist hounding she faced when she bravely helped people speak their truth?
also casteist is a word twitter. STOP asking me to correct the word.
