It’s so common for survivors to be inconsistent in their accounts that this training manual on false allegations states that inconsistency is not enough to determine that an assault did not happen.
Many of the same media outlets and personalities that were understanding with Christine Blasey Ford’s missing details have seemingly forgotten their understanding of trauma when it comes to Tara Reade. slate.com/technology/201…
What Tara Reade told her friend in 1993 matches her account of the assault as she described it in 2020. Public knowledge of Reade’s allegations changed when she told her full account (including both sexual harassment & assault), but the story itself is the same.
The assertion that Tara Reade changed her story is exactly the same thinking Harvey Weinstein’s lawyers used to disparage his victims. newyorker.com/news/news-desk…
“But many [of Weinstein’s victims] still say that they face overwhelming pressures to stay silent, ranging from the spectre of career damage to fears about the life-altering consequences of being marked as sexual-assault victims.”
“Unless we are to assume a journalist is trauma informed, why is it remotely hard to imagine that a reporter could intimidate a victim of rape? Or have a demeanor that suggested her story would not be fairly told?”
“All [Tara Reade] did was leave out details. She hasn’t changed the fundamental substance of any of the things she said she experienced. It has all been parts she omitted.” - @LucyFlores
There continues to be a lot of confusion around @AOC and @ReadeAlexandra. This is a nuanced and difficult subject, so we’re going to look at it more deeply.
On Tara Reade and AOC, a thread:

April 14th, 2020:
AOC was the first person from congress to speak publicly about Tara Reade's allegations against Joe Biden. 2/ thehill.com/homenews/house…
That same day, Tara Reade thanked AOC for being the first member of congress to speak out. 3/
There is always an abuse of power in sexual violence, and considering more than half of women victims of rape reported being raped by an intimate partner (and 40.8% by an acquaintance*), relationships with abusers are often complex, confusing, and layered.
2/
*for male victims, more than half (52.4%) reported being raped by an acquaintance and 15.1% by a stranger. - @NSVRC cdc.gov/violencepreven…

In 2018, @SenFeinstein played a key role in the accusation against Kavanaugh. In 2020, she criticized Tara Reade for not coming forward sooner.

Today we’re going to talk about corrobation of Tara Reade’s allegations against Joe Biden.
thread 👇🏻 #WeBelieveTaraReade
Before we dive in, what is corroboration? @Wikipedia says
“Corroborating evidence (or corroboration) is evidence that tends to support a proposition that is already supported by some initial evidence, therefore confirming the proposition.”
In this case, the initial evidence is Tara Reade’s testimony, and the corroborating evidence comes from people she told about the harassment and assault. However, many have a flawed understanding of corroboration.
