OMG. ENOUGH with the outrage over opinion pieces in newspapers!
A good newspaper includes both NEWS and OPINION.
Those opinions may include the newspaper’s own opinion (in the EDITORIAL), the opinions of its COLUMNISTS and the opinions of others: OP-EDS, guest columns, etc.
OVER HERE, you have NEWS which is designed to be informative & factual, though selection of which stories to cover & how they’re covered is influenced by the editorial bias of the paper (which in turn reflects the bias of its target market.)
Bias is inevitable. Prejudice is not.
OVER THERE, you have OPINION which is designed to be informative & provocative, to stimulate discussion & should (I believe) feature diverse perspectives.
These are normally identified as #opinion#comment or #analysis. Online they may included author’s name in the headline.
WHEN A NEWSPAPER publishes an opinion different than yours, it’s not “FAKE NEWS.”
ONCE AGAIN the Coalition for Gun Control in Canada takes substantial liberties with the truth.
If they would stop lying, Canada might actually be able to focus on changes that would save lives — not merely punish the innocent. ipolitics.ca/2021/02/05/fir…
The vast majority (police estimates vary from 80-95%) of guns used in violent crime are smuggled illegally into Canada from the USA.
The guns of choice for criminals are not readily available (if at all) to buy legally or steal in Canada.
THIS👇🏻 is FALSE.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE has increased during the #pandemic. And was already a major concern before #COVID19.
But guns are NOT a significant factor in domestic violence in Canada.
This statement👇🏻 is only true in the USA. Canada’s licensing and storage laws make this a non-issue here.
