one of the ways the violence of capitalism is expressed is when you cannot distinguish manic episodes from productivity. #mentalhealth
productivity is not a measure of quality of life. it's maddening to think that you can literally risk your life working 40 hours/week and still not make ends meet while also having to deal with the psychic aftermath all on your own. this should not be normal.
what's worse is that the non profit sector is just as bad (if not worse II n some cases) as the private sector when having to balance #mentalhealth while serving others and only marginally being able to subsist.
COVID showed how the vast majority of us are only 1-2 paychecks from this grim reality.
the quote "you can't draw blood from a rock." could not be anymore appropriate especially as it relates to poorly workers in the food industry, agriculture or they gig economy are treated...and during a pandemic no less.
#mentalhealth resources should be a non negotiable of any relief bill.
having to wager your health and quality of life for an subsistence income is not an equal 1:1 exchange especially when you're betting against a future where you'll eventually be living on a fraction of that income while your health gradually wanes.
before he transitioned to ancestorhood in 2010, i witnessed my father sacrifice his life working in retail and service industry only to die from complications of chronic health disease and undiagnosed depression. this is what was sold to us as the so called "American Dream".
it adds further insult to injury when you are shamed about #mentalhealth and chronic health disease because of your behavior instead of how capitalism subsidizes its profits with your health and quality of life.
as we're witnessing with the COVID vaccine monopoly, the western medical industrial complex is a function of capitalism. we have private firms deciding the outcome of who lives and dies because they want to secure profits for its executives and shareholders.
we need to create decentralized networks of intentional dialogues and communities around care work that doesn't place profits over people or the planet.
this is why foodashealing.com exists. it's a movement for healing ourselves and our ancestors by "maintaining our identities, sense of belonging, health and wholeness."

did you know that #Detroit once had a #Chinatown? it was raized twice due to urban renewal. these same racist policies also displaced Black Bottom/Paradise Valley and Latinx community along Bagley/96 intersection. MGM Casino is where the first Chinatown was located.
while metro #Detroit likes to present itself as racially, culturally and ethnically diverse, it is not racially, culturally or ethnically integrated. we're all concentrated into separate communities bc urban planning is inherently racist, anti Black and anti Indigenous.
until we address racial covenants like urban renewal, block busting, redlining, predatory lending and housing practices, neo-colonial practices like mass foreclosures, school closures, water shutoffs, land grabbing and gentrification will perpetuate displacement of BIPOC folx.
