2) It’s poor theology all around. Jesus is God according to John 1:1. Therefore whatever God says throughout Scripture, Jesus says too. And, in this case, Jesus also said it.
3) We honor both prohibitions and definitions in Scripture. Scripture doesn’t just prohibit certain types of sexual behavior but positively affirms and defines that which is acceptable to God.
4) Christians don’t define marriage using prohibitions in Lev and Rom. We define it using the definition that’s
- Rooted in Creation (Gen 1)
- Reiterated throughout Scripture
- Repeated by Jesus himself (Matt 19)
- Reflective of Christ & the church (Eph 5)

God does nothing arbitrarily. The definition of marriage carries both physical and spiritual/eternal significance. The fact that this is one of the first things “deconstructionism” lets go of is not surprising.
