There were 47 new cases in the region today: 1 each in PEI and Nova Scotia, 15 in New Brunswick, and 30 in Newfoundland and Labrador.
There was 1 new death, bringing the regional total to 90.
There are 253 known, active cases.
PEI reported 1 new case; however it is a resident of the island that is currently in another province. They will isolate upon return.
There are now 4 known, active cases in PEI.
NL reported 30 new cases today, all in the Eastern health region; this is the 2nd highest one-day case number since the start of the pandemic.
Contact tracing is ongoing. The ages of the cases announced today cluster <20. Allegedly linked to a high school volley ball tournament.
Although the source of the outbreak on the whole still isn't known (the tournament couldn't be the origin of the entire outbreak unless they traveled, just a potential super-spreader event.
It's still early day's for this outbreak, so details TBD.
Schools in the St. John area will be closed for at least 2 days to allow for contact tracing and testing.
Restaurants are open at 50% capacity, but bars, lounges, and gyms are closed for at least 2 weeks.
If you're in the St. John's area, consider dialing back on your contacts and any indoor grouped gatherings. Wear a mask when around others.
If you haven't already, download the COVID ALERT app.
If you have symptoms, stay away from others and get tested.
In general, if testing is available to you, consider getting tested.
I'm going to start monitoring the NL outbreak like I have been the recent NB one(s).
When I have time, I'll update my code so the health region-level numbers are accurate to today (instead of yesterday)
But NL is being very proactive and I bet they're going to get this under control pretty quickly.
There are now 57 known, active cases in NL.
NB reported 15 new cases today: 2 in Moncton, 3 in Saint John, and 10 in Edmundston.
The province also reported 1 new death in the Edmundston region, the province's 21st.
There are now 183 known, active cases in NB.
NS reported 1 new case today; a travel-related case in Halifax. They are isolating as required.
NS has announced that travelers from NL will now have to isolate as travelers from other provinces are required to.
There are now 9 known, active cases in NS.
Here is the updated pandemic timeline for the Atlantic region. This is from end of day yesterday, the Eastern NL is probably a shade or two darker now.
This animation compares vaccine roll-out for every province and territory.
Top/solid line is doses distributed, bottom/dashed is doses administered, and the shaded area is doses in storage.
Here are the vaccine roll-out metrics.
1st is usage rates for doses distributed in the last 3 weeks.
2nd is how many days since the national average was at the same level as each province (i.e., how may days behind each province is).
And here's the estimated days of vaccine in storage based on recent vaccinations per day.
I'm still split on how useful this is, between the smoothing and the fact provinces can slow down vaccinations when running low.
That's it for tonight.
Everyone in NL please stay safe in the coming weeks.
Have a great night!
