@Kantrowitz @TwitterSpaces @Twitter @joinClubhouse What I like about @TwitterSpaces is that I can listen to it while I use other apps ( @ tweetbot, in this case), just like a conference call in the background. The value is all about the speakers; great interviewers & guests will keep being compelling, but most may be dross.

@Kantrowitz @TwitterSpaces @Twitter @joinClubhouse What I haven’t heard the tech & biz journalists talk about yet is the potential use case for politicians & officials. @TwitterSpaces could create instant town halls for legislators & mayors, or public meetings for regulators — but archiving & accessibility could both be barriers.

Now @kayvz joined, which makes this a group interview. It’s almost like …a press conference.

What I’m curious about: is there a maximum size for a @twitterspaces instance?

I agree: people will also have tons of downtime on commutes, at the office, at night. Endless liminal spaces to connect.

@Kantrowitz @TwitterSpaces @Twitter @joinClubhouse @andrewrsorkin @kayvz @jack @ev @biz Cool: @kayvz says the room size is infinite, but the current cap for @TwitterSpaces speakers is 10. That speaks to the potential use cases for, say, @potus or other world leaders, to host a conversation. Again, archiving & accessibility are issues, but I bet politicians adopt it.

Love that the audio for @TwitterSpaces minimizes to the bottom of the app, enabling a user to scroll & interact.

Now listening to @kayvz talk about the potential for misinformation spreading this way; he says that’s why @Twitter is starting slow.

As @kayvz notes, @TwitterSpaces is covered by @twitter’s platform @policy. I found a reporting button in settings with different options than you’ll find on tweets, along with a link to the Rules. There’s no option to report a civic integrity violation or medical misinformation.

At present, @TwitterSpaces (which is built on @PeriscopeCo tech, per @kayvz) hosts can only pin tweets to the top of the stream, nor other content.

@kayvz says Twitter could add video eventually, but it’s much less friction to hang out on audio, vs being on-camera.

New mechanics coming to @twitterspaces, per @kayvz:
Muting people, & demoting people.

Seems like people you’ve blocked or muted *may* still be able to enter a room, but they can only listen unless host invites them to be a speaker.

So a host plays the role of a producer or MC.

Mine: depending on norms for moderating set by tech journalists won’t go well in a mainstream.
