Many thanks ⁦@wolfblitzer⁩ for hosting me on ⁦@CNNSitRoom⁩ re: the good news is that we’re on a path to fully vaccinate the US adult population by late summer or fall, but uncertainty on how we navigate through March April May with B.1.1.7 from the UK on the rise
Also discussed the spike gene target failure (SGTF) variants: the current OpWarpSpeed vaccines should be fine for UK now accelerating in US, but all of the vaccine developers including us are shaping modifications to address the ZA variant
I’m especially worried for the African continent which so far seems to have weathered COVID19 better than expected until possibly now. I’m concerned that ZA variant could become all consuming and precipitate a global health crisis.
For that reason our group is working night and day to now make 2 vaccines: one for the original lineage and now this new one from ZA

Not sure how many times we can revisit this, but this is the last of it from my side: 1. I receive no funding from industry or vaccine manufacturers, either personal or institutional. 2. Bill Gates does not give me his money (although that would be nice). Additional info below:
1. Our only link with industry is German Merck KgaA (totally different from the American Merck & Co, the vaccine manufacturer, they were permanently separated due to WWI) graciously helps us improve production yields for our schistosomiasis vaccine for poorest people in Africa
2. With Gates, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation previously funded our human hookworm vaccine, but no longer. That program continues through NIAID NIH support

Despite the unfortunate title, let me state emphatically, the scientists stand with the teachers. There’s no daylight between us. We are scientists in part because of our K-12 teachers. There’s no choice, our teachers/staff should be vaccinated, we must. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/…
We have opportunities to mobilize more vaccines, we should take advantage of this
With the variants coming, really important to vaccinate the teachers and staff, we should be able to do this quickly

Oh wow, both RFK Jr and HighWire? 2 of my lead tormentors who try to incite violence against me and my family. The former publicly declared me the “OG Villain” last year on Instagram. The first time that FB/Instagram has taken a step towards dismantling the antiscience empire
A major reason they hate me so much is because I wrote “the book” which debunks their phony assertions about vaccines and autism and eats into their disinformation empire jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/title/vaccines…
Hopefully this is only the beginning, and FB/Instagram and Twitter will now undertake a more substantive effort to dismantle the Antiscience disinformation empire. It’s our best chance to slow vaccine hesitancy and refusal, especially around #COVID19 immunizations.

Don’t believe it: I promise you the 10 leading antivaccine Antiscience hate groups who target me, family, will still be operating as usual. FB, Twitter, Amazon, Instagram do the least possible, while creating an illusion of corporate social responsibility forbes.com/sites/rachelsa…
I can also promise: in a single high level zoom call with the leaders of FB, Amazon, Twitter, Instagram, immediately followed by 10 clicks for each organization, I can de-monetize and cripple the antivaccine and Antiscience movement in America

The American people are smart but we are not mind readers: Now might be a good time to communicate the anticipated public health impact of the variants, the timelines for their emergence based on epidemiologic modeling, and detail the roadmap to vaccinating ahead of the variants
We went through piecemeal, one-off sound bites, 3-4 minute opinion-filled cable news interviews with in the last administration, this administration needs to find a way to communicate in a more substantive manner.
It's not complicated: It requires a single individual to summarize the current status, the biggest concerns in the coming months, what happens if we do nothing, what is being done to correct it. It's what I ask of my first year doctoral students.

Wow, did @FoxNews @IngrahamAngle and the Murdoch Family give a prime time slot to the guy that publicly calls me on his Instagram the “OG Villain” (I had to look it up, it means the “original gangster”) and knowingly gleefully places me and my family in a daily path of threats?
They really do aspire to amplify Putin’s Russian systematic program of weaponized health communication designed to destabilize the US. I can’t remember when I’ve seen such deliberate contempt for America 🇺🇸
Fox must make a clean break with this nonsense. Otherwise they’ve abandoned all conservative values, or any awareness of how the greatness of our nation was built on science. If they don’t make change and unload the hate and antisemtism they are just in a race to the bottom
