I feel like #TexasFreeze folks could use some tips from people used to extreme cold. No better source on that than dog sledder @BlairBraverman. Here's her thread

put on layers of down/wool/anything to create pockets of air and pile everyone into one bed.

and make sure to pee. don't waste body heat on a full bladder.

If you're just miserable but know you'll be ok, please check on any elderly or disabled neighbors.

If conditions are really cold/snowy, become a temporary Minnesotan and put the following in your car: blankets; tin can, matches, something flammable; snow shovel & ice scraper (you can improvise); extra boots & wool socks; jumper cables; battery chargers; flares.

also, people not used to cold can do do really dumb stuff trying to stay warm. for example, do not turn on gas oven and leave it open. beware of trying to light fires in unused fireplaces; make sure flue is open if you do. yes, shutting off water can reduce chance of frozen pipes

Extreme weather is only beginning folks. This is what climate change means, and it's going to get worse.

Please check on the vulnerable in your neighborhood.
