I thank H.E President @MBuhari, WTO DG @NOIweala, @AfDB_Group President @akin_adesina, Founder and Chair @Mo_IbrahimFdn Mo Ibrahim and other dignitaries who joined me as I unveiled the 10 year infrastructural ambition for Lagos State at the Ehingbeti Lagos Economic Summit today
Lagos is the economic capital of Nigeria and I invite our residents, visitors and investors to look ahead to the next decade, and the possibilities that lie ahead for Lagos as we set this great city up for accelerated progress.
There will be a city-wide network of colour-coded Metro Lines, the first two of which – Red and Blue lines – will move over 34.5 million people monthly, cutting travel time by over 250 percent.
By 2030, Lagos will proudly stand beside every other megacity in the world, in terms of its capacity to transport its people.
We are putting water transportation infrastructure in place to make our waterway transport systems a central element of life in the metropolis and The Fourth Mainland Bridge will come to define the cityscape of the 2020s.
By 2030, Lagos will be a Smart City, fully covered by a network of several thousands of kilometers of fibre optic infrastructure that will carry broadband internet into homes, offices and schools.
The Smart City that is unfolding will also be home to a network of intelligent cameras that will support not only security and policing across the State, but also traffic management and data collection for urban planning.
By 2030, we will be home to one of the largest Rice Mills in the world, after we deliver our 32 metric tons per hour rice factory in Imota, which will produce 2.8 million bags of 50kg bags of rice per annum.

There is an urgent need for us to be more circumspect in the way we live, interact and socialize with our friends and family. Many people are ignoring #COVID19 warnings and guidelines, thereby exposing themselves and others to the virus.
We are well into the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Yesterday, Lagos scarily recorded its highest number of infection in one day (712. We have already recorded a frightening spike in infection cases.
This spike brings positive cases to a total of 32,720 in Lagos alone.
This second wave comes with severe symptoms, and the higher number of positive cases we detect, the higher number of casualties we’re bound to record. We do not want this, but for this to be avoided, we must be intentional and cautious.
At our annual state thanksgiving service today, I underscored the importance of showing gratitude to God in all situations even as we reflect deeply on all that transpired in the just concluded year 2020.
As a State, we cannot but give unending praise to God considering all that happened last year.
We did not only survive, we triumphed, and we can look back and say that we emerged from 2020 stronger and more confident about the inherent greatness and resilience of our State.
In the spirit of thanksgiving, we recommit ourselves in service to Lagosians as we commission over 377 projects across the state within the next few weeks.
Today, on our journey across Lagos, we paid respect to the ones we have lost. It was an emotional time for everyone, and we will find a way to remember them in the coming days.
Lagos belongs to us all. No other state has this unique combination of people living in peace, harmony and progress so it saddened me when I went round for an on-the-spot assessment to ascertain the level of destruction to public assets and private properties.
Our beautiful city has seen a level of destruction almost akin to a war zone. It was a shocking and very sad spectacle. Our land took a beating and this hurts. Historical buildings, cultural centres, private malls, government holdings and private businesses were pillaged & burnt.
Today seems like a good day to get on to the work of rebuilding Lagos and ending police brutality.
To show our commitment to the latter, here is a list of ongoing prosecution of police officers for offences related to the violation of human rights in Lagos.
1. State of Lagos v. 1. Insp. Surulere Irede 2. Sgt. Sunday Ogunyemi 3. Corp. Hezekiah Babatunde - Manslaughter. Adjourned to 13/11/2020. Justice Ogunsanya
2. The State of Lagos v. Ogunyemi Olalekan - Murder. Adjourned to 5/11/2020. Hon Justice Coker.

I address you today with a heavy heart as your Governor. I do so as a father and a brother. I do so as one who is touched by the infirmities and feelings of his people. I do so as a part of the collective humanity that we all share.
Yesterday’s events were no doubt some of the darkest gradients of our history as a State and as a people. As you are perhaps aware, I have been engaging the #EndSARS protesters since Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 October 2020 respectively.
We were making progress together though the pace was slow due to lack of an acceptable leadership amongst the #EndSARS protesters.
