First, in the era of school shootings, it’s in really bad taste for Don Jr. to attack teachers on front of a wall full of guns. It’s gross. It feels like a threat in this climate. And right on the heels of the Parkland anniversary.
Second, while his father did NOTHING to help us, we’ve fought for safe reopening of schools since April. His dad’s administration gave no guidance on reopening, didn’t track COIVD in schools nationally, and interfered with the CDC.
Now we’re working across the country to make sure we can put the safeguards in place to reopen safely. I wrote about it again today. aftvoices.org/a-road-map-to-…
The truth is, Trump didn’t manage the crisis, he ignored it. He was more interested in tweeting about reopening than working on reopening. Now Don Jr is taking shots from the cheap seats. Teachers have worked extraordinarily hard- they deserve help not scolding
And let’s be clear: yes you can reopen schools safely, but it's a lie that’s all reopening without precautions is safe. This is a pandemic. People have died. But 500,000 dead doesn’t seem to faze Trump or Don Jr, so why would they actually care about teachers, staff and students?

We have always been able to depend on @AFTWV to fight for the future #WVChildrenDeserve. And while we will face challenges over the next few months, I know that by working together, we’ll prevail in the long term.
Right now, WV GOP lawmakers are working to continue the DeVos legacy of undermining public schools using charter schools, vouchers, union busting, and more. But we cannot lose hope and we cannot give up. #WVChildrenDeserve better.
We may not have the leadership we hoped for in WV, but we have an opportunity w/. @JoeBiden to secure more resources for public education and #ReopenSafely to get people back into the classroom, & to pass #COVID19 relief with the #AmericanRescuePlanactionnetwork.org/letters/worker…

Thank you @NCPERS for inviting me to speak to your conference. Now, more than ever, we must work together as public employees to protect pensions and our democracy.
While people are struggling from the effects of #COVID19 and racial inequality, they’re also facing another crisis: The prospect of retirement insecurity. It’s up to us to ensure every American has the #FreedomToThrive.
We must also make sure we’re not funding lawmakers and organizations trying to destroy our democracy. It’s prudent that public pension funds investigate whether their members’ deferred wages are invested with firms that enabled this attempted coup.

Many school districts are trying to go back to in-person learning this week. The fact is both in school learning and safety are key, and because of all the disinformation, the disinvestment, the failure to tackle #covid, educators and school staff& many families are fearful.
We can combat the fear- with science, rea sources, working together & safeguards. The CDC’s recent guidance suggests that with the right precautions, school reopening can be done safely, but people need the blue print.
Boston and NYC have worked out extensive protocols with a real enforceable plan to make sure educators could do their jobs and keep their students safe and engaged.

Thank you @CNN for having me on this morning to talk about school reopenings, #COVID19, vaccinations, and what we’ll need to #ReopenSafely.
Educators turned on a dime to make remote learning work, but we all want to be back in the classrooms. It’s why we’ve been working since April 2020 to #ReopenSafely.  aft.org/reopen-schools
Aligning vaccinations for educators in school buildings that are reopening and who want them and are is an important part of the reopening process, as NYC & Cleveland have shown. It’s what we’re working on elsewhere too.
