Auspicious morning of Magha Shukla Ekadasi when Bheeshma, the grand old Pitamaha of the Mahabharata, revealed the greatness of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam to the Pandavas, as he lay on a bed of arrows in the war of Kurukshetra. Today is also popular as Bheeshma Ekadasi.

🙂🙏🙂🙏🙂
Ok! Let me explain why and what.

In Shanthi Parva of Mahabharatam, we know Bheeshma decided to leave his mortal coil on the 8th phase in bright fortnight of Magha, Magha Shukla Ashtami, also known as #BheeshmaAshtami.

So why #BheeshmaEkadasi?

Read on.
Bheeshma was not his original name. He was King Devavrata. Due to the uncompromising Pratigya he took, he was addressed as 'Bheeshma'. He was also a master of Vedas and Shastras. Hence, out of everyone in the Kuru clan, he was addressed as "Bheeshmacharya" with reverence. 🙏
Before he decided to move on, Bheeshma revealed the essence of Dharmasutras and the Vishnu Sahasranamam to the Pandavas. He was an expert in Yoga and so he could hold his body on a bed of arrows for so long.

He wanted to leave his body in auspicious period of Uttarayanam.
After he left his body on Ashtami, the following Ekadasi was when a special Tarpanam was offered to him by everyone.

The five days in Magha Shukla - Ashtami- Navami- Dashami- Ekadasi- Dwadasi- are extremely auspicious and are known as 'Bheeshma Panchakam'.
Bheeshmacharya is the only one to whom Tarpanam is offered by everyone, including those who have parents. In Bharata Varsha, we believe, everyone is a descendant of this great Acharya.

It is in his honour that this Ekadasi is observed. It is also called 'Jaya Ekadasi'.

🙏
On this very auspicious Ekadasi, chanting the Bheeshma Stuti, the Vishnu Sahasranamam and offering Tarpanam is extremely powerful for every devout Hindu. 🙂🙏

I hope the confusion is clear about why we observe #BheeshmaPanchakam and #BheeshmaEkadasi.

Jai Shree Krishna!
As Bheeshmacharya himself said in the Sahasranamam :

वनमाली गदी शार्ङ्गी शङ्खी चक्री च नन्दकी
श्रीमान्नारायणो विष्णुर्-वासुदेवोऽभिरक्षतु ||

May lord Sriman Narayana protect everyone!

Love this beautiful work in the Nathdwara traditional style.

You see Bheeshma in the centre, surrounded by the five Pandavas, Lord Krishna, Lord Brahma, Lord Shiva, sage Narada, Balarama, four sages Sanaka, Sanandana, Sanatana and Sanath Kumara.

Spiritual leader Satya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi was a great supporter of @VHPDigital. Everyone from Ashok Singhal ji to Vajpayee ji were his devotees. Baba's spiritual successor Madhusudan Sai follows his master's footsteps. Has donated massively to the Ram Mandir construction. 😊
More support for the Ram Mandir! The firey orator Sanyasin Sri Sadhvi Rithambara ji! Who doesn't remember her brilliant speeches! She donated one crore rupees for the Mandir!

My super talented circle of Vedam friends, are like a large family by now. Each of them here are studying Vedam full time. Some are Ghanapaatis, some Jata and Kramaapatis. Some are also studying Shastra and Jyotishya. Revisiting Yakshagana Prasangas is a collective timepass! 😀🙏
The Prasanga here is from Lava-Kusha Samvaada. If you can understand Kannada, you will enjoy it better.

Lava and Kusha are in the forest. Have caught the horse that was left. Two soldiers come in search of them. And a conversation begins. 😀🙏
The soldiers ask the two kids their Pravara and Gotra. A beautiful dialogue between Lava and Kusha and these two soldiers. They mention they don't know all those things. They only know their mother who everyone in the Valmiki Ashram address "Amma". They don't even know her name.

Vijayadashami is a day we consider extremely auspicious for Vidyaarambam. A friend sent me this wonderful video of Vidyarthis in a Patashala in Hyderabad reciting Taittreya Upanishad.

May the power of these ancient chants heal the world! 😊🙏

I am putting out a picture thread on some of the greatest living scholars and Maha Vidwans of the Telugu regions. Each of them have performed countless Somayagams, Poundarika Yagams and so on. Just having their Darshanam is enough! What better day than an auspicious Ekadasi! 😊🙏
Sri Khambhampati Nageshwara Avadhani Garu of Vijayawada. A great scholar of Krishna Yajurveda who accepted Sanyasashrama to become the head of Sri Sringeri Sivaganga Peetham, an Upapeetham of Sringeri in Karnataka.

Now some confused liberal VMK is asking me if Chanakya was a real character or not. I asked him if he read the Arthashastra? Fellow says no, can't read Sanskrit so depended on some translation.

He is more interested to prove Chanakya's identity.🤦‍♂️

VMK = VedhavaMundaKoduku*
It was at the Oriental Research Institute in Mysore that the great scholar Mahamahopadhyay Rudrapatna Shyamashastry (1868 - 1944) discovered the only surviving palm leaf manuscript of Kautilya's 'Arthashastra', one of the greatest literary discoveries of the century! 🙏
Read 'An Imperial History of India' by Sri KP Jayaswal. An important document that puts the history of Bharat in good perspective.

I don't know where these half-baked liberals come from! 🤦‍♂️

Book available for download here. 🙏
