The past week or so I have portrayed Raila Odinga as a simplistic nincompoop, a guy playing checkers in a public park where grandmasters are playing 3D chess.
Until I though about it once more after seeing the developments of the past few days. Hear me out...
Raila met with Kivutha Kibwana for "brunch" last week Thursday. By Monday morning, Kenya's hope for a policy led presidency in 2022 were drowned after Kivutha Kibwana endorsed the BBI through his own Makueni County Assembly despite citizens rejecting it in the County.
Over the weekend, Raila had dinner and drinks with Jerotich Seii, the fierce fighter whose father was the Chairman of the BBI taskforce Major (Rtd) Seii. She unwittingly shared a picture of this occasion at her home which was widely interpreted as Raila buying her into BBI camp
On Monday morning and throughout the day, Raila Odinga minions like Edwin Sifuna and John Mbadi issued scathing statements against former NASA party leaders Kalonzo, Musalia and Weta short of calling them PUSSIES for their requests for Raila to retire come 2022.
He also sent out a cryptic tweet of himself at Kajiado for "lunch" with Peter Kenneth and a host of other Central Kenya washed up leaders.

What does this all mean?
Even as he continues the destruction of the Jubilee Party, Raila is quietly dismantling his own alliances.
The guys over at the Coast like Joho who have ridden the coat tails of of Baba for the past 15 years or so have been left to their own devices scrambling to form a united Coast voter block in a bid to make them more attractive.
Baba is having none of this bullshit anymore.
With BBI, Raila knows that he can dish out as many positions as possible to as many fools out there without necessarily having to rely on the traditional Western, Eastern, Coast blocks that he has tried to consolidate in the past two election cycles which grossly underperformed
My assumption that Raila Odinga is an ignorant fool playing checkers loudly in a field of grandmasters playing 3D chess in silence is ill conceived.
Baba is infact playing 4D Chess, eating up the pieces one by one so his former allies and current enemies don't have moves left.

It had been raining heavily for the past 3 hours on this cold night in Nairobi's sprawling Mathare slum. Cyprian Nyakundi was hunched infront of his 2008 Mac Book Pro typing away furiously and his friend Nyamweya lay on the bare 4 by 6 mattress beside him.
Nyamweya was an associate of Nyakundi, and they had spent a few years together coming up with small schemes to make money to survive in the concrete jungle that was the city in the sun.
Do not forget to mention the part where the directors of the bank flew out of the country...
...in a braifet chet with 10 million tollas in cash, Nyamweya quips.
Nyakundi intertwines his fingers and stretches as far as his hands can go as his knuckles crack loudly even though the noise from the rain hits the mabati rolling mills roof is deafening.
This is our big break

It was a hot Sunday afternoon in Mombasa back in the year 2002. *James (not his real name), was going about his work as a banqueting waiter at the poolside of this hotel setting up for the night's private dinner party. The hotel's manager, a short and stout Indian man with...

I just had an amazing conversation with two male colleagues regarding cheating (being cheated on by girls) and its a difficult topic for us men to discuss. We are all in our 30's (one recently got engaged two single) and we struggled to tell our stories. Its painful.
The currently engaged guy was 24 when he first found out he was being cheated on. He was dating this girl in Dar while he was working in the gold mines. He would come to Dar to visit her every time he got his break and he was paying for their house in Kinondoni with their child
He had snatched her from some guy she was dating and she said they had broken up permanently with the other guy. This time he was home, the phone rang at night while they were playing in bed. She silenced it quickly and went about her business.
He grew suspicious

A few years ago when I was still working in Diani, my job description included running the banquets/events since there was no one fully designated to do that job and since it fell under my department I had no choice but to do it.
One thing about banquets, its always back breaking work. In a resort, its worse because most of the conference groups tend to spend at least 3 days for a conference. Some can go upto a week. This is a lot of hard work since menu planning has to be very precise.
There is always an organizer for the conference group and it is important to have an amicable working relationship with them since they can make your life into one big painful affair.
That's how I met *Violet.
She was a senior employee at a Kenyan airline at that time.

I have a mug of black tea infront of me. I can feel the juices of creativity flowing. Its time I start Season 5 of my life story Thread.
It took two weeks to clear with my employer. It got heated at one point since the Capetonian wanted to scuttle my agreement with the owner. I had to call him to tell him what was going on. The guy backed off and stuck to the terms of my resignation.
By this time I was talking to everyone I knew about job prospects. Calling, sending emails, texting. Anything. Everything. I spent the Christmas holidays with my folks in the village. It had been years since I did this.
I went back to Dar, packed my stuff and moved to Nairobi
