#ncsbe Director Karen Brinson Bell just recommended to State Board of Elections that ALL 2021 municipal elections be delayed until 2022, and that 2022 primary be moved from March 8 to May 3 (second primary July 12). She says she has talked to state legislators NCLM /1 #ncpol

Brinson Bell will be making this presentation to NC House Elections Committee at 1 pm Wednesday. For Raleigh and Cary if adopted this would put election May 3, 2022 and any runoff Jul 12. For Wake municipalities w/plurality format, election May 3, 2022. /2 #ncpol

Important to note this a PROPOSAL made to NCSBE /3 #ncpol.

NOTE: municipal elections in even-numbered year do increase somewhat cost of the election, mostly more ballot styles. Asheville and Winston-Salem had primaries same day as 2020 prez primary, see sample ballots for Buncombe and Forsyth here: dl.ncsbe.gov/?prefix=data/S… /4 #ncpol

CURRENTLY municipalities with elections in even year are MOSTLY 4 in Buncombe, plus Lincolnton, Winston-Salem, some in Stanley County and scattered others /5 #ncpol

Just got asked about term extensions due to delays and if it had happened before in Orange Co -yes, in 1971 (effective in 1973) #ncga moved Chapel Hill, Carrboro and CHCSS elections from May to Nov, those elected in 1969 got bonus 6 months, 1971 elex for 4.5 years /7 #ncpol
