OUTBREAK OF NEW VARIANT IN 8 SCHOOLS in Toronto 🇨🇦—public health dept tonight just sent urgent warning about worrisome appearance of #SARSCoV2 variants (likely #B117) in 8 different local schools. Ontario has had several #B117 outbreaks already. 🧵toronto.ca/news/toronto-p…
2) City of Toronto has quarantined several cohorts of students in each school. But I’m not sure this is enough.
3) This Toronto variants outbreak is eerily similar to the #B117 initiated outbreak in British Columbia 🇨🇦 recently—7 schools all in a local cluster.
4) the data on school transmission is now irrefutable... look at the school teacher and student Covid rates vs general population, and what happens when schools close for winter break, and what happens when reopen.

VENTILATION IS CRITICAL—The CDC should be doing more to guide and encourage improved air circulation in schools to help prevent the spread of #COVID19. CDC has not paid anywhere near enough attention to the role ventilation, and air disinfection. 🧵

cnn.com/2021/02/25/hea… Image
2) “Schools will need to spend time and money improving airflow using HVAC systems, stand-alone HEPA air filtering systems or even just by opening windows if students, teachers and staff are to return safely to in-school learning in the fall, the experts say.”
3) “The state of ventilation in schools in the United States right now is woefully inadequate," Richard Corsi, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University, told a forum hosted by JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health this week.

JUST IN—Tennessee is investigating vaccine wastage and potentially improper temperature storage of thousands (possibly tens of thousands) of #COVID19 vaccines past their shelf-life outside freezers. They had improper record keeping in Shelby County. Damn🧵 tn.gov/health/news/20… Image
2) State investigators cannot verify that all the thousands of vaccines were even refrigerated or frozen properly!!!
3) Apparently TN dept of health found that Shelby County was inappropriately stockpiling vaccines and throttling them instead of giving them out to high risk eligible patients. This is super weird. Image

Here in Washington DC, entire roads & lanes completely change direction mid-day... via a giant road machine that literally “eats” the concrete barriers and “spits” them out the other end.

In other words, perfect reflecting of the meat grinding life in America’s capital. 🇺🇸
2) To be clear, this isn’t some HOV segregated lane with extra wide berth. It’s literally one LEFT lane that directly BECOMES the new left lane of the oncoming direction. And the machine COMES directly at you! ImageImage
3) Also at rush hour, ENTIRE ROADS goes from being ONE WAY one direction to ONEWAY other... and even a whole damn bridge (with no other bridge option for miles and miles on either side).

The CDC just sent a response why they haven’t emphasized airborne. They confuse aerosol & droplets.

➡️3 modes of #COVID19 transmission:

1. Touch
2. Spray droplets
3. Inhalation

*But even at close range, exposure is more likely by inhalation than spray*—see 🧵 by @Don_Milton.
2) The CDC response is in response to @briancolder’s request for information.
3) the gist is that CDC refuses to act and make airborne precautions official guidelines until they can see proof airborne is a greater threat than droplets by framing it as wanting to see hard proof of “proportion of infections”—which is *absurd* from precautionary principle.

BREAKING—Vaccine advisers to FDA voted unanimously to recommend the agency grant emergency use authorization to Johnson & Johnson's #COVID19 vaccine in people 18 and older. Soon we will have 3 in US — it’s a 1 shot & no freezing one for rapid deployment! cnn.com/2021/02/26/hea…
2) The JJ vaccine was tested worldwide in 44,000 people. In the US, excluding Brazil and South Africa where variants common, the “efficacy was 72% and it was 85% effective in preventing severe disease. No one who got the vaccine died of #COVID19 during the trial.” That’s the key!
3) US has ordered 100 million J&J vaccine doses, with 20 mil to be delivered by end of March!! bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

⚠️Global case decline has reversed—#COVID19 is once again surging overall worldwide / no longer dropping. Especially in Europe where the more contagious #B117 variant is driving faster spread & helping launch another wave (as I’ve been shouting at the rooftops for last month). 🧵 Image
2) Denmark is the perfect example — they knew it was coming with the #B117 dominance. They knew it was inevitable but nobody listened.
3) Denmark CDC warned us in January to not be complacent Image
