(1) Yes, all you geniuses talking about this being literally the plot of Designated Survivor are smart & clever & all.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's admit that everyone who works in the Capitol complex has legitimate safety concern rn, like any worker would.
(2) I think it was unwise for Pittman to mention the SOTU, the next major event scheduled for the Hill, bc that makes it easier for security threat deniers to claim she's exaggerating for partisan reasons.
IMO it will be a long time before the fencing can be scaled back.
(3) BOTH sides are making the situation worse than it needs to be, because they are relying on psy op techniques to exaggerate their claims.
Some of the far left congressfolk eg AOC have handed the far right a narrative that Dems are pretending to be scared.
They're not.
(4) The fear is justified & widespread across the occupation types of building user. Janitors, secretaries, frontline cops, IT workers, & politicians on BOTH sides.
The GOP members who voted to impeach & convict Trump have the same rights as his allies. And, they are targets.
(5) Based on my experience working in (NZ) government agencies, it's gonna take at least 5-6 months to implement the kind of security changes that would allow the emergency fencing etc to start being reduced. They can never go back to being the soft target they were on 1/6.
(6) Those peddling the narrative that this was all just partisan performance art set up by TDS-addled Democrats have lost the middle ground they need if they're going to win back power anytime soon. Independent voters see through it and they yearn for some degree of "normalcy."
(7) Craving "normalcy" is human nature and historians always talk about this in the postwar settings after WWI in Europe and WWII everywhere.
"Ordinary Americans" are sick to death of partisan games getting in the way of common sense and saving lives.
(8) The pandemic and it's responses have been a challenge for everyone, including all elected officials, and that includes Trump when he was in office.
I'm very familiar with the pandemic related talking points used by his supporters, and his detractors.
(9) The more you say those fences can and should come down right now, the longer they will stay up. It doesn't matter how many R governors call their troops back, there will always be enough military units available to protect the seat of the US government. Listen to yourselves.
(10) It's abundantly clear that the level of security threat on 1/6 was foreseeable. The idea that Trump, McConnell and Pelosi didn't know proper security would be needed is ridiculous on its face.
These three were jointly responsible for security in downtown DC that day.
(11) Trump's duty as Commander In Chief was to allow sufficient, armed DCNG troops to provide the first line of defense around the outside of the Capitol buildings. Plural.
This letter affirms that anyone in the chain of command wanting that need only ask the Sec of Defense.
(12) Trump could have told the Sec of Defense to deploy the troops at the start of the day, or within 15 minutes of being informed that there was rioting. It was more like 2 hours.
I'm pretty sure the rioters would have dispersed if they saw hundreds of troops on the way.
(13) This letter affirms that if LE officers and troops of the federal government were to be added to the mix, then as long as Mayor Bowser was told as early as possible, she did not oppose that. Her concern was that non uniformed personnel would cause confusion for her LEOs.
(14) There is no doubt in my mind that Trump had the power, & the duty, to order proper security outside the Capitol complex that day. No one gets to tell a POTUS no, when it comes to something like this. That's why the Presidency has so much power: Because at times it is needed.
(15) The Congressional commission into 1/6 is going to be just like every other enquiry out of that building: a mess.
The criminal prosecutions are where the facts will be found. They will be tested in open court, according to the time honored rules of evidence used there.
(16) Faith in American institutions is at a near all-time low (1861 was worse.)
Naturally, Trump supporters don't trust the FBI, the DOJ, or the federal judiciary. To which the rest of the country shrugs and says "so what?"
They can see Trump did nothing to improve that.
(17) Then come the excuses. Trump was powerless in the face of the deep state. Trump was betrayed by those close to him. Trump was controlled by those close to him. It's been a 5 year witch hunt. Our only recourse is to march to save America. We the people control the Congress...
(18) Y'all have forgotten the forgotten man and woman again.
He & she are trying to keep food on the table and protect the seniors and medically vulnerable in their life from getting sick.
Those people don't have a 98.5% chance of surviving.
Capiche?
(19) The far left counted every little metaphorical comment Trump made as if it were literal, & they said he lied 22,000 times (or something.)
The far right then stopped questioning if _anything_ he said was a lie.
Y'all should revisit that & try to be objective. I have.
(20) Trump certainly was less than honest about the pandemic, and everyone can see that. Everyone who is not wearing MAGA goggles.
He even referred to it in the past tense in his farewell speech. Did you notice?
It wasn't over on 1/19 and it's not over now.
(21) So yeah. Don't be a dick about security measures at the US Capitol complex.
The first time someone fools you it's their fault.
The second time, it's on you.
Learn from your mistakes.

(2) On 1/6 Trump falsely accused Pence of lacking courage.
In reality he showed immense courage, and so did every LEO who put him or herself in harm's way, particularly Officer Eugene Goodman who acted as a decoy to lure part of the mob away from the Senate chamber.
(3) I spent 4 years & 4 months supporting, defending & boosting the Trump campaign, presidency, & agenda.
After 11/3/20 my trust in the presidency eroded week by week. In mid and late December I went on record 4 times on Twitter warning folk to avoid the 1/6 rally entirely.
I admire Tiger Woods. He earned his Medal & I wish him well.
If you listen to Trump on this clip, you can hear how much of a tragedy he thinks the crash is. The left are going to attack him for "ignoring" the tragedies of ordinary Americans. He walked right into this.
I can see why Trump would want to go on FOX and say this, but I think it's yet another bad decision after many months of them. Tiger has a PR battle on his hands already from this crash. Trump was thinking of himself, not Tiger.
Pence is reportedly planning to lay low for 6 months, and I think that is wise. It would also be wise for Trump to at least partially do the same.
I want the conservative movement to rebuild as quickly as possible.
Trump's actions & omissions have harmed our chances.
(2) The LA Times reports from an anon source that "His injuries included a shattered ankle and two leg fractures, one of which was compound."
IMO it wouldn't be impossible for Tiger to resume his golfing career later on; he came back from worse injuries already. I'd retire but:
(3) We all know Tiger is the kind of person who will make that decision differently to most people. Gonna be several months before he recovers, at a minimum.
Sheriff reported he was wearing a seatbelt and airbags deployed. Was driving a Hyundai Genesis GV80 SUV.
(2) Let's look at the assertions made just in the introductory paragraphs.
The DOJ isn't arresting "anyone involved with the Capitol breach."
They are investigating & arresting those with court-ready evidence of law breaking. And NOT just for breaching the building.
(3) I've read many of the charging documents available at this point.
Bc I've been reporting on this type of crime for 4 years, I know the documents only need to include enough evidence for the preliminary stages. Don't make the mistake of thinking you've seen all the charges.
