5 years ago I was performing on this stage as a crayon in "The Day the Crayons Quit", and pounding redbull to get my energy high enough to perform 2 morning shows a day for kids ๐ญ๐๏ธ๐ด
If you think it's too late to learn to code/make a career switch, I promise you it's not. ๐ฉโ๐ป๐
Not everyone has the luxury of being exposed to computer science at an early age. There's no shame in learning later in life- we all start somewhere.
If you feel like you don't belong in tech, I assure you, there's space for you (and we need you). ๐โค๏ธ

For those asking for resources on how to start/learn/find a job, I'll post a couple here in the thread! I attended @Hackbright in 2016, but there are many ways to learn online as well.
My pal and mentee @MetzinAround has been live coding on @Twitch with @TheCodeTraveler and myself from early in the global panera! ๐คฉ It's been incredible to see him learn and grow live โค๏ธ You can check him out at twitch.tv/metzinaround
Making a career change is NOT easy. Learning to program takes time + for most folks coming from non-traditional paths, coding (let alone learn how to whiteboard) is a skill that takes time. โค๏ธ Be kind and patient with yourself. What you're doing is hard!
Imagine calling something "Abundance 360", and it then being a COVID-19 super spreader event... Silicon Valley continues to be a parody of itself. sfgate.com/coronavirus/arโฆ
"I flew to Culver City in a global Panera, paid $30k, and all I got was a life threatening virus" ๐ณ
Y'all the irony of it being called "ABUNDANCE 360".
As someone with an age 75+ parent and a grandparent who doesn't quiet understand the internet, I'm sure I can't be the only one concerned about how difficult it is for many folks (who need the vaccine most) to get information on the vaccine. ๐
Spent my morning looking into this for my dad (woke up in a panic realizing this is something he doesn't know how to do, let alone do a Google search for). Got me started thinking about other folks like him who don't have family/folks looking out for them ๐
Early in shelter in place, we received a postcard from The White House that had "COVID Guidelines". I feel like we need to be thinking about the demographics of folks who don't have email/internet/etc.
How do we make sure the people who need this info most get it? ๐
Early in my career, I was given the feedback "just be careful there aren't too many women at your meetup- we don't want it to be too homogeneous", and I think about the absurdity of that statement every fucking day.
Soon after, they had the audacity to ask me for a "positive referral" for their next position.
Being a woman in tech is exhausting.
Best part? The data said otherwise.
There were way more men than women attending these events- there were just more women than usual... ya know, the whole thing companies have been trying to solve for YEARS, I had accomplished on my own, and was scolded for. ยฏ\_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'll have other ways to contact me- don't worry. But I just can't continue to keep this channel of communication open while @TwitterSafety does nothing to protect me/my sanity ๐๐๏ธ๐ฎ๐ฅ Fleets have made it even worse.
