We collectively made over 3000 phone calls and multiple TV, and Facebook live appearances to fight mistrust, answer questions, share stories and bring #latinx people from never making it into a list or multiple waiting lists to getting a #COVIDVaccine
Most people receiving the vaccine today were older than 65, a few were parents of children with complex needs, some were health care workers and some were school employees. We followed @ncdhhs guidelines covid19.ncdhhs.gov/vaccines to register people for #VacunasCOVID19
We offer wraparound services during these community events. La semilla brought 500 boxes of frozen meat, chicken, fish, or brisket, and bags of bananas. @Curamericas and Southeastern brought bags with PPE to give to people to take home after they got their shot.
Community Health Workers with La Semilla, Southeastern and @CentroHispanoNC hired through @ncdhhs contracts, many with @Curamericas shared knowledge about #COVID19 on the phone prior to registering and during the event.
My son and my sister were 2 of many volunteers. I love seeing how our community came together contra la #pandemia
My sister Alejandra Martínez Lacabe was our DJ who brought music from all corners of Latinamerica. We wanted to make this day feel safe, at home and a celebration of life over #COVID19#ThisIsOurShot
We heard stories of pain and resilience. We heard thanks and satisfaction.
I am forever thankful to those who volunteered to vaccinate, to make calls, to plan, to prep vaccines, to register, to manage parking, to answer questions, to listen, learn, and educate. The community came together, Latinx and allies #ThisIsOurShot#VacunasCOVID19
It was a labor of love & hard work to lift up a community that has been disproportionately hit by #COVID19#LaUnionHaceLaFuerza#VacunasCOVID19 para la comunidad latina. Mi comunidad tiene amor y resiliencia. Muchas gracias @dukeraleigh for believing we could host this day.
Someone asked me about #CoronavirusVaccine safety and how could I and @GabrielaPedsMD promote it. Besides all the science reported on it, I must say I feel much safer with a strand of #mRNA in my deltoid
instructing cells to make a piece of the #spike protein which is being identified by my #immunesystem to be able to mount a response later on to protect me against #COVID19
than having #SARS_CoV_2 entering my cells, actively replicating, transcribing its genes, producing many many viral “babies” within my body
