To the degree this is true, and it certainly is for this crowd, it bodes well, w some major potential problems:
1. Tr is weak, fragile. No longer a darling, he has some strong headwinds. An egoist is not a sufficient base for a long-term movement.
2. Others have written well on
potential of the GOP splitting. That would be good for the country. IMO we need a true two party system. But one devoted fundamentally to the core values & foundational propositions of the country. As it is it is anything but. It is not an exaggeration to think a deep
unreconcilable split is in the offing if certain trajectories do not change. One of the concise statements of the syndrome is Molly Ivans identifying one of the core goals of Bush, but by extension the GOP:
They do not wish to govern, but to rule.
Downsides?
At least this. Reminds of the dictum re the Market: "the markets can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent."

The corrosive influences on the country by the GQP/QANON/Trumpy/Cpac cohort will be in play long after their power is neutered.
It is the way with religions. They do not go quietly into the night.
Unless & until the sane part of the GOP figures out who they are, & if they are willing to participate for the good of the country, & not be driven by people & principles that are deadly, but personally useful
So these "mugwumps" of the GOP finally separate themselves from their irrational, worshipful tribe, making irritating statements like, "I don't agree, but I cant publically say so..."; until this happens the GOP, such as it is, will increasingly be transitioning into the "GQP".
A wholly owned, subsumed, once-proud party, taken over by nincompoops, like Jordan here. Or smart, but devious leaders like Cruz, or the sickening sycophant Graham.

There needs to be more than 10 who will stand up to Trump and the party and admit the obvious. Trump &
Trumpism are a deadly viral infestation into the country. He is no great leader. However worshipped he may be by the faithful and the hopeful.

Meanwhile,
those who oppose this hagiography, and abore the pathetic ego-sotted failure of a human being that is Trump, need to learn
& do much better than thinking it is sufficient to "be on the right side of history".

The 'marketplace' that is the public square is still largely influenced by the irrational. It is no time to think the work is complete.

Whatever that means.

What to make of this moment?
This is the woman who made bank on bilking the Tr faithful, who so desperately want something, they do not know quite what it is, so they call it god & god's calling.

But she is a false prophetess, her 'prophesies' & were lies. She is to be shunned. Image
What is sad is it works.
Not the 'angels released from Africa' (and why would they be released on her word? And why did they need to come from Africa?) But upon the desperate & trembling congregation.

Her 'prayers' are the SOMA of the faithful.

What is remarkable in this new religion is how paltry is its object of worship. More strange: he cares nothing for them, not one moment longer than they are useful.

Yet this amorphous dread they feel, he congeals into tangible forms upon which they can unleash their 2min hate. Image

Interesting. Telling.
So much for principles.

We really need to get past the point were we are governed by the personal experiences of our [so called] leaders. Whether good or bad outcomes.

We cant depend on personal experience for Rep's to do the right thing. Or the wrong.
We cannot wait for some relative of one of our "guardians" to have a personal crisis before they see how Health Care needs to be addressed. And how flawed the GOP anti-solutions are.

Or, like Cheney, to recognize the inanity/flaw of GOP stance on gays, because of his daughter.
We are governed by fiat, & personal proclivities & as opposed to wisdom & insight into real problems, with real ideas, that address not politician's need [lust] for power but the country's need for systemic solutions.

&etc
It is so obvious, yet so hard, because of this failure.

So much unbearable suffering.

So much of that so utterly unnecessary.
More than just the normal sorrows of life, the suffering inflicted on the country (& world) due to such illicit use of power, implementing policies & programs that incubate this suffering.

The Tr/GOP legacy.
Have we had enough of the endless catalog of "Trickle Down" failures?

Enough of having policies targeted to accumulating wealth (not just money) toward the top? Violating a basic principle of letting people live?

Enough of this foolish idea that "I alone can fix this"
Enough of this idea that "everyone else are just lazy people trying to take my money".

A troupe that shows up in various forms throughout our history. And is showing up again now in a time of COVID.

Blame the citizens who are trying to navigate the endless new rules...each

@tommy_pane Here is the deal T.
It gives me no pleasure to keep at you at a fundamental level. I have tried to engage you many ways.
But at root, you ignore so much in order to maintain your equilibrium. & in fact you have to. I get it.
These are not policy issues we are debating.
@tommy_pane Your insane ability to ask the wrong next question is, at an analytical level, a curiosity.
And etc.
This one about pedophiles is a perfect example... Follow the thread.
We have gone from your self equivalence w the Q people, and that superior level of crazy...worked through
@tommy_pane 3/ your various attempts to maintain some weird position, which remains occluded. Now, having been blocked at the level of "you don't really care, why not"... which is a stupid line for you to take, in general, and specifically w me. Now you are on to Hollywood and etc..

This vote is not a defeat. It is a perfect opportunity to highlight in unambiguous terms that the Republican Party is devoted not to the country,America and its interests, but they are in service to A Con. A Lie. And a Liar.
If we cannot make this case, then yes the game is over.
The Republicans overreached. It is imperative to recognize they were not voting *for Trump* they voted for their survival as a party.

With sharp decisive strategic moves this can be turned into a rout. This is Napoleon attacking Russia in the winter.
The defeat is in the move.
Let’s not do the standard democratic move and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

There are so many metaphors and examples in analogies to be brought to bear. This is not the time to admit defeat.
That would be to give them the victory.

Remember how many senators wanted to

The impeachment trial is not a vote on the merits of the case presented. The vote is about establishing a Lie as the current organizing principle of the Republican Party.

Until this Lie, & the Liar are addressed & renounced we are at risk.

Some thoughts
threadreaderapp.com/thread/1360297…
As if further proof were necessary:
So just a collection of examples as they show up
Here is one.
Once the lie has become the reality. The raison d'etre, it will start manifesting in ways that first will cause a headshake of disbelief, like this report

cnn.com/2021/02/11/pol…
Later it will start showing up in ways that are not obvious, not clearly tied to the underlying lie. It will be pointed out in articles and investigations, but likely won't break onto the public consciousness until the next viral outbreak happens. Some violent redux of Jan6.
