I’m totally laughing at myself. Sitting here talking about Sergei Ibaka w my son in an unrelated conversation. Type Ibaka in tweet. I’m a dope.

That’s the gigantic 7’ 0” Ivica Zubac from Croatia.
See. They’re both tall. Their last names have five letters. Natural mistake.
And autocorrect changed it to “Sergei” instead of the correct Serge.

I give up.

My mom got a vaccine appointment.

She told me and I was like “Oh, that’s good...” but then I was sitting in the car later and it hit me.

Man, that is such a relief.
My family has a stoic and pragmatic relationship with death. Or, with dying, really.

My mother’s mother ended her own life. We all knew she would. It wasn’t a surprise. It wasn’t up for debate.

When my grandfather passed away, she told the family “I have three years.”
“Whatever you want to do with me, we’ve got three years.”

And she meant it.

So, she traveled and spent time with her sisters.

And then when the 3 years were over, it was her time to go.

She had emphysema. It had robbed her of quality of life. She was satisfied with her life.

Lots of chatter about Twitter possibly adding a feature to allow accounts to charge for access to their content.

I don’t think folks understand that they aren’t talking about paying to see someone’s tweets.

They’re talking about additional content beyond tweets.

There are a lot of passionate journalists, activists and writers on here who are kept from creating more content by needing to pay the bills.

I’m just a person who tweets.

There are a lot of people who produce valuable content though - or would if they could afford it.

I posted a few weeks ago that the volume of stuff I have posted in the past four years - valueless though it may have been - is the equivalent of 15 novels.

I would absolutely pay some accounts the equivalent of a cup of coffee a month to create additional content I value.

For this morning’s musical “Hey, Check This Out” I was looking for something upbeat and peppy and thought of the UK’s Lucy Spraggan.

She’s had a number of fun, uptempo sing-along songs.

But, more importantly, she’s going through a personal transformation.

After having broken through in 2012 after playing the total drinking song, “Last Night” on X Factor, Spraggan went kind of sideways.

Now she’s a year into the sobriety she marked with the haunting and beautiful “Sober”.

It listens like a diary entry.

Spraggan’s latest is a track I just love called “Why Don’t We Start From Here”.

It’s an upbeat, fun song and the subtext is Spraggan’s own story:

After a lifetime of trying to escape, why don’t we start from here?

She’s a year into that re-start.

The stupid faux-virtue of “real-naming” is just annoying AF.

We live in a world where women in particular are subjected to abuse, threats and real-life dangers for doing nothing more than existing online.

Demanding people expose themselves to danger to please you is ridiculous.
Okay, I’m a little revved up about this so I am just going to go off.

When I joined Twitter, I didn’t actually care about anonymity. I just made up an account name and used it. Once this whole thing inexplicably took on a life of its own, I began planning to “out myself”.

Since it’s Valentine’s Day...

We met when I was in my 20s. I was traveling in Ireland on a shoestring. I was young and single and free.

I wasn’t looking for anything. But sometimes love finds you.

Sometimes love just slides up next to you at a bar.

We met somewhere near Shannon and spent a lot of that week together. At the end of the trip, I was sad to leave.

We would have chances to still see each other in the U.S. but it would be different.

It would never be the same as it was that first week in Ireland.

That was many years ago. I’m older now. I have a child. I go out less.

But we do still get together and I still feel that very same love I felt that first week.

We had to stop seeing each other when COVID first hit but we have found ways. An outdoor patio. Ordering takeout.
