These 4 screenshots outline @Twitter’s new “strike system” @Policy for violating #COVID19 rules. Consequences depend on context (severity & type of violation, account history) & include deletion, labels, freezing, locks, & permanent suspension.
Of note: @Twitter says it will “prioritize producing @TwitterMoments in cases where misleading content is gaining significant attention & has caused public confusion.”

If @Twitter is both willing & able to proactively address lies about masks & vaccines & other medical misinfo on its platform, not giving us the ability to report violations might be ok, but I am not convinced that’s the case. People flag for “self harm” now, which isn’t optimal.
Doubling down on labels embraces a strategy that obviously failed to mitigate Trump’s “Big Lie” about a “stolen election” & “widespread voter fraud.”
This “strike” system may be progress, but I’d suggest putting “superspreaders” in epistemic quarantine:

The @stanfordio report found the primary repeat spreaders of lies & misinformatin online were the @verified accounts of far-right media outlets, social media 'influencers,' & politicians, including @POTUS45 & his family. stacks.stanford.edu/file/druid:tr1… Labels didn't address that, at all.
