I still struggle to get why commercial interests are a thing here
Just a global pandemic you know
would be a shame to call it a global emergency &mobilise all our strength -all available/buildable production capacity- against it
But hey this new technology = future bns so patents
What makes me mad is -we can do that for war
National effort, new plants popping out of nowhere -to build weapons
But apparently we can’t do the same when we’re at war with a virus killing us, only when the point is us killing each other
🤷‍♀️
Covax program is much needed and welcome, but it shouldn’t be needed.
Vaccine producing companies should be working together instead of competing against each other -globally.
It’s kind of sad we end up celebrating not being completely selfish a**es
Note: Even when being selfish a**es, the smart thing to do is to put our lives ahead of commercial interests

I mean, why?
What is the point of finding the “goldilock exposure“? How will that help? And what vaccines are supposed to be be tested if any?
vox.com/future-perfect…
So apparently it’s sort of an introduction to “let’s assess the vaccines effect“ studies
Re-creating the pandemic in a lab with real humans to study it while controlling it - quite the dystopian movie plot

I honestly don’t know much about autism, severe or not -no personal experience- but one thing I know is people who think promoting ‘help’ that is potentially lethal know even less than I do.
Not interested in their vision.
One thing tough: I did learn about autism from people who actually know what they are talking about
And realised I didn’t know much.
And that it would be a good thing if we all got to knew more -just, you know, by getting accurate information

GB news
‘We will make words mean something else’
(Note: Woke does mean someone whose aim is to cancel the culture of social injustice and racism. Which is fine)
Where have I seen that already?
Oh, right.
In the Tufton Street&co think tank’s Bible.
“The use and abuse of logic“
Insidious indeed.
(Side note: That these technics to twist the very sense of words to sow division and confusion are used by Andrew Neil should surprise no one, as he’s an informal member.

Sunak confirming the reason govt let the NHS run the vaccination campaign (instead of filling their cronies' pockets) was to use the (half)-vaccinated numbers as an excuse to reopen the country too early.
Back to herd immunity "Protect the obviously vulnerable f**k the others"
Which, may I remind everyone, is a strategy the virus would actually pay for if it could as, the more cases, the more chances for it to mutate again into a vaccine-resistant variant that would get us ALL back to step 1 -but ATST be a convenient screen from Wrexit effects so well
And also that would help with the "overpopulation" Johnson is so concerned about -What's not to like, an opportunity for the UK to be "world-leading" at something

So while this is still being stirred up
-AZ committed to start the delivery of vaccines a week earlier, with 9m more doses (40m as a whole) and extend its EU production capacity
-Johnson&Johnson (quite similar to AZ, but only 1 jab) vaccine will be there around April
As shown by this sh**show, production capacity is crucial and will now be dealt with better, we might hope
It’s the new plan anyway
Turns out vaccinating the planet is a bit of a pickle, &we ”could” need a global pandemic plan -like if we have to do this all over again next year
ITM wear a mask if not two and observe social distancing
Consider that vaccine full protection isn’t there before the second injection, and that afterwards, even if you are protected from a serious disease, there’s not enough evidence to assert you can’t be infected/infectious.

Quick note here: The EU contract was signed after the U.K. contract, so AZ should have mentioned that priority clause. Instead they said there were under no obligation possibly hindering their best effort to supply the EU.
A lot of sh**show could have been avoided.
The EU reaction was bad, and AZ has a right to set priorities.
But this wasn’t taken into account in EU vaccination plans because the opposite is stated in the contract.
Again a lot of sh**show could have been avoided.
Of course the EU wonders if the money it gave AZ is being used to supply the U.K. first.
The U.K. contract was not published and anyway the payment schedule would be redacted.
But EU’s main problem is it based its vaccination plan on inaccurate, misleading information.
