An interesting exercise for an aspiring film critic: "The Empire Strikes Back is the only good Star Wars movie. Explain why this is, both in terms of its merits and its sisters' flaws."
My answer: ESB is the closest that Star Wars gets to making the Jedi way seem as mystical as we're repeatedly told it is. The cave sequence was the height of Star Wars. 1/2
The rest of the films treat the Force either as hippies see Buddhism (original trilogy), as litRPG books treat magic (prequels) or as wineaunt-run writers' workshops treat talent. (sequels) 1/2
2/2, sorry.

One of the things you don't realize until you have to research the genealogy of superhero stories is how literally all of American pop culture is descended from the Barsoom series. John Carter of Mars should unironically be taught in English classes.
It's weird because you'd think (like I did, going in) that Superman would've been mostly a take on Doc Savage. (The "man of tomorrow/man of bronze" epithets alone...) but no, almost everything derives from John Carter. (albeit indirectly through Flash Gordon in some cases)
And not just sci-fi and capeshit. For example: Burroughs has a good case to make for having invented what's basically the "orc" fantasy archetype with the Green Martians. He's at Marie Corelli magnitudes of influence, but barely any more people know about it. Surreal.

The $2K thing was the most childish lie and anyone could've seen it. Getting you fired for unorthodox opinions is one of their strongest tools and they weren't going to sabotage that with mincome, however temporary. (which is also why Trump COULD lol)
This is also why Dems will never give you a real public option fir health care, by the way. The only reason that exists in Europe and Canada is because we can outright jail you for hate speech so we don't need to bother with indirect threats to your livelihood.
"What about welfare?" That's conditional on you participating in and following the incentives of the system, it isn't just the government paying you $2000 to fuck off. (which is exactly why liberals opposed it when libertarians proposed to convert the former to the latter)

Now that No-nut November has begun, it's time to start with the REAL horror stories.

#1, the first thing that ever made me question porn, was an interview with a 🇭🇺 performer who said that 500+ scenes have made English her language for bedroom talk & Hungarian feels "weird."
(not giving names bc the whole point of this is for you all to NOT lookup pornographers)
Imagine being a porno-🌹 thinking that "sex work will still exist in a socialist society" when its so alienating that it makes ESL speakers unable to naturally dirty-talk in their owm native language lol. "Enthusiastic consent" or "abolishing capitalism" can't fix this.

@ktherese2 I don't even know where to start on this. Really wish I was home rn so I could type it all up. But, long story short:
1. He brought his capeshit story techniques into TV drama which laid the foundations for the MCUing of visual media.
1/?
@ktherese2 (compare it to other similar-genre shows from before Buffy like Xena and you'll see what I mean)
2. He gave ua the "snarky" and "quipster" dialogue that has plagued us ever since. It became impossible to take any situation seriously, & eventually studios stopped even trying
2/?
@ktherese2 If you're wondering why, e.g. Nebula's abusive parent backstory in Guardians of the Galaxy has to be immediately followed by an "irreverent sarcastic remark™," its bc otherwise we'd be in danger of feeling something "heavy," and Whedonesque storytelling despises this.
3/?
