@Melina_Gee speaking at the @UNSW Med #IWD2021 event. First of all, let those titles sink in! π
@Melina_Gee : academic research too hierarchical and success only measured through outputs - some reasons why she moved onto other roles within the sector to be a leader.
@Melina_Gee owning her authentic self: "I am chatty, a little casual, and emotional... so didn't think I could be a leader."
@Melina_Gee : to elevate women into leadership roles 1) mentor women, 2) talk about women 3) elevate women's voices 4) sponsor women.

Exhausted from a dark few weeks for women in Aus - can only keep fighting for justice if we first look after ourselves. Spent time on the weekend w/ my Ma making this dress to celebrate women. Creating always replenishes me. Now ready to keep going πͺ #SpeakUpForJustice#IWD2021
Special shout out to my Intersectional Feminists out there - always more challenging to navigate this world at the intetsections of injustices and inequalities. I am a woman and a person of colour and that combo is tough!
There are other intersections of course. #IWD2021 often doesn't explicitly recognise these and we should. It is measurably more challenging at the intersections. Laws, evaluations, inquiries, initiatives, solutions should address these intersections actively and explicitly.
So- you're finishing your PhD in a pandemic....what's next? (while the university sector is in collapse). Geartful for @ResourcefulHDR for organising and @thesiswhisperer for the public service! π #AcademicChatter
