#WMATA’s first budget public hearing is at 11 a.m.
The outlook has changed dramatically after the Senate passed the latest coronavirus relief bill with $30B for transit. That likely means no more drastic bus and rail service cuts in Jan 2021. wmata.com/initiatives/bu…

One of the most active and engaged Rider Advisory Council members says they’ve been pushed out the door by WMATA. As Chair of the RAC, they always begged Metro to be better — whether it was providing masks or more clearly communicating service changes during the pandemic.
Metro has treated this rider group badly in the past.

It’s unclear what Metro’s board wants out of the group. Or maybe it’s very clear.

Metro is set to vote on appointing new members of the RAC at 9 a.m. They’ve nominated:
- Madison O’Conner of Virginia
- Brian Meyer of Virginia
- Charmaine Todman-Nwanji of Maryland
- Andrew Tsui, at-large

- Unclear why @anelki not reappointed Image

Board now going over new service guidelines to ensure equity in bus service across the region. These plans haven't been revised for about 20 years.

Breaking: #WMATA is proposing some of the grimmest cuts in its 50-year history. If approved, service cutbacks starting July 2021 include:
- No weekend train service
- Trains every 30 mins on each line
- Close 19 stations
- Close at 9 p.m. instead of 11

- Bring back turnbacks on Yellow, Red Lines; Silver Line service only from Ashburn to Ballston
- Cut bus routes from 60 lines to 41
- Eliminating ANOTHER 2,400 positions on top of the already-approved 1,400 buyouts/layoffs. (1/3 of workforce total)

This is just some of the ways Metro is trying to bridge a $500 million budget gap for July 2021 to June 2022.

All of this could change/go away if Congress approves new federal coronavirus relief funds for public transit.

WMSC says this happened while the person responsible for vehicle movement in the yard was watching a movie trailer. That's a big violation of WMATA's no electronics policy.
