Here's the breakdown of how vaccines will be distributed.
The order which you register does not affect when you get an invitation. Will be randomized.
You can signup for the pre-registration system at vaccinate.dc.gov or calling 1-855-363-0333
Bowser says it could take days, weeks or months to get an appointment.
"We do not have enough vaccine for everyone who wants it," Bowser says. But everyone who registers will eventually get a vaccine.
Once invitation to get vaccinated goes out, you have 48 hours to book an appt
If you miss that 48-hour window you'll go back into the queue and have to wait again. Will happen three times. If you don't book after third selection, you'll need to re-register.
This week:
Wed: Pre-registration system opens
Fri: First invitations go out via calls, texts, email
Mon the 15th: First appointments
Going forward:
Invitations sent out Thursdays, Sundays and Tuesdays by 10 a.m.
Bowser says check your spam folder so you don't miss an email
Bowser says only eligible people can register at the moment: 65+, people with certain pre-existing conditions, teachers + staff, licensed child care facilities and others.
Reporter question: How do you verify if someone has a pre-existing condition?
Nesbitt: We don't want to create an artificial barrier to vaccination. You only have to attest that you have those certain conditions during the registration process.
Officials say since the process is randomized, no need to rush to the site on Wednesday to pre-register. It's not first-come, first-served.
Bowser in response to the tech frustrations in the last few weeks: "We're doing the best we can to make sure the technology matches the need... This (new) system is to have the frustration once... not week after week."
Bowser says ANYONE can pre-register on Wednesday but highly discourages that practice. She says people should wait until their eligibility phase is announced. Registering early will not get them ahead in line.
Bowser on @chenderson bill to introduce ranked-choice voting: "I'd like to look at her bill... I want to look at the experience that other places have had..."
Bowser jokes that she's worked with the current electoral system for a while.
"I've got elected a lot of times... it works pretty well if you ask me," she says with a laugh.

#WMATA’s first budget public hearing is at 11 a.m.
The outlook has changed dramatically after the Senate passed the latest coronavirus relief bill with $30B for transit. That likely means no more drastic bus and rail service cuts in Jan 2021. wmata.com/initiatives/bu…
Here were some of Metros earlier proposals that now may go away
Oops that first tweet should read Jan 2022. I don’t know what year it is 🙈
One of the most active and engaged Rider Advisory Council members says they’ve been pushed out the door by WMATA. As Chair of the RAC, they always begged Metro to be better — whether it was providing masks or more clearly communicating service changes during the pandemic.
Metro is set to vote on appointing new members of the RAC at 9 a.m. They’ve nominated:
- Madison O’Conner of Virginia
- Brian Meyer of Virginia
- Charmaine Todman-Nwanji of Maryland
- Andrew Tsui, at-large
- 2 other members reappointed
- Unclear why @anelki not reappointed
Oof. Looking back at this quote from when WMSC released its report in Sept: Mayer said he has confidence that Metro leadership understands what needs to be done to fix the issues.
“The WMSC will pay very close attention... to ensure that the problems get addressed adequately."
Agenda: Will they or won't they send out a ravaged service plan/budget out for public comment or wait for Congressional aid? Also a Silver Line update: wmata.com/about/board/me…
Breaking: #WMATA is proposing some of the grimmest cuts in its 50-year history. If approved, service cutbacks starting July 2021 include:
- No weekend train service
- Trains every 30 mins on each line
- Close 19 stations
- Close at 9 p.m. instead of 11 dcist.com/story/20/11/30…
- Bring back turnbacks on Yellow, Red Lines; Silver Line service only from Ashburn to Ballston
- Cut bus routes from 60 lines to 41
- Eliminating ANOTHER 2,400 positions on top of the already-approved 1,400 buyouts/layoffs. (1/3 of workforce total)
WMSC says this happened while the person responsible for vehicle movement in the yard was watching a movie trailer. That's a big violation of WMATA's no electronics policy.
Here are the movie trailers that came out that week:
Spiral
The Jesus Rolls
Guns Akimbo
Fast and Furious 9
Minions: The Rise of Gru
Mulan
The Kindness of Strangers
Impractical Jokers: The Movie
No Time To Die
Black Widow
Top Gun: Maverick
What if the Minions trailer contributed to this crash?
