Abolition is not about anarchy, or absence of accountability
As Ruth Wilson Gilmore said, it’s about the presence of life-affirming institutions
We decrim victimless “crimes”
And hold perpetrators of true crimes truly accountable to the people and conmunities they’ve harmed
Through reparative, transformative justice, victims and perpetrators (who’ve typically been victims themselves) are repaired and transformed through mediation, rehabilitation, and service to the community
Police patrols are replaced by wellness checks
And responses to emergencies are handled by highly trained, unarmed health and psychiatric experts
As we demilitarize and #DefundThePolice on the road to #AbolishThePolice and prisons, we re-allocate and invest in education, jobs training, mental health and drug treatment, harm reduction, mutual aid, and re-entry services
As we build a more humane society, where communities protect and care for themselves, we hold existing police, prosecutors and judges accountable
We end qualified immunity, cash bail, civil asset forfeitures, police unions and foundations, the death penalty, the 1033 Program...
