i rarely promise things but i can 100% assure u that the most intelligent questions you will ever ask yourself will make you sound like an absolute idiot to normal people if they heard them

my wifes friend took this angle recently and just as a random example said “well, for example, i know gravity is real. i drop this book, and it falls”. so u can ask, but in antiquity greek philosophers knew if you dropped something, it fell, and they didnt know what gravity was

so, does that really follow? people knew things fell for at least thousands of years without knowing what gravity was. so how do you know its real? to most people this would make you sound like a total idiot, but imo this is what actually lets u get “ur feet on the ground”

b4 i get “um actually”ed as this is one of my pet favorite topics i am aware some theories [like] gravity existed but i see it as qualitatively different than our concept of it. for example the below rising + falling can be seen purely as a function of the density of these things
