1/ Legal checks on government power are to be eroded. Voter suppression is arriving, the right to protest is being curbed, critical TV is being cancelled, while hard-right TV is being funded by super-rich kleptocrats. This is how democracy dies.

2/ If the Tories win the next election the UK will become a Putinist sham democracy, a DINO (Democracy in Name Only), in which one party always wins. Trump's stupid Capitol coup failed. The Tory kleptofascist creeping coup is succeeding all too well.

3/ If the opposition parties don't engage in electoral cooperation, they will almost certainly lose the next election, and we will lose what remains of our democracy. It is a simple as that. It's a Progressive Alliance or democracy dies.

4/ Democracy doesn't have to die with tanks on the streets and Colonels on TV. It dies in little steps, an erosion of the rights to vote and protest and legal checks on government power, the marginalisation of opposition, the normalisation of lies etc..

5/ No single step in the death of democracy is enough to elicit mass protest and resistance. To most people everything seems normal, even as democracy is hollowed out into an empty shell, with the kleptocrats' political and media minions playing out the sham democratic farce.

6/ The Tory elite don't have to be plotting a kleptocratic coup. It's just that they don't care about democracy. They don't serve the middle class or British businesses. They serve themselves, their cronies and super-rich paymasters, none of whom needs democracy.

7/ So whenever it comes to a choice between Tory power and democracy, the Tory elite will choose the former. So piecemeal, without the need for any plan or plot the Tory elite will dismantle democracy and replace it with kleptocracy.

8/ There are of course more sinister actors in the game - libertarian kleptocrats like Murdoch the remaining Barclay and Legatum's Christopher Chandler, who are actively following the path to kleptocracy laid out in William Rees-Mogg's "The Sovereign Individual".

9/ It is not only libertarian billionaires who are pushing us towards kleptocracy. So are their merely rich political minions. When he was a Tory MEP @CharlesTannock reported that the Tory Brexiters wanted to destroy the entire post-1945 world order.

10/ Why would Tory Brexiters want to destroy the poat-1945 world order, why would Steve Baker want the EU "wholly torn down", if not to replace democracy with kleptocracy, following the role model laid out by Putin.

11/ How can the kleptocratic right succeed with such tactics? The main reason is the post-industrial collapse of the working and middle classes as coherent political forces. A disorientated & fragmented population is easy to manipulate with nationalist and populist rhetoric.
