8 HISTORICAL MUSLIM WOMEN YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT

Here are 8 Muslim women we can learn a lot from their lives & draw so much strength from; from their diverse experiences, expertise, commitment to the religion & the values they have added to the world & scholarship.

Thread.
1. Nafisah bint al-Hasan;

Nafisah bint al-Hasan became so knowledgeable in Hadith, that Imam al-Shafi'i sought to learn from her. She was coined "Nafisatul-'ilm" (the gem of knowledge) before she had even hit puberty! She was a fountain of knowledge & a great woman.
2. Fatimah al-Fihri;

After her father & husband passed away, Fatiah inherited a huge amount of money. She was not interested in money, & decided to spend her wealth for the sake of Allah. She built a large masjid & included a library to encourage knowledge and scholarship.
It wasn't long before great thinkers from all over the world began to travel to al-Qarawiyin Mosque and University.

Today, the university that Fatimah al-Fihri founded is regarded as the first university in the world.
3. Sutaytah al-Mahamali;

Sutaytah al-Mahamali was a well-known mathematician during her time. Her math skills were so impressive that the scholars of Baghdad came to her when they could not solve an equation.
Through her knowledge of math, she became well-versed in the laws of inheritance shares. She was also a jurist and a mufti! Yes, a woman Mufti. Where are the women of today?

In fact, Ibn Kathir said she was the most knowledgeable of her people in regards to Shafi'i law.
4. Zubaidah bint Jaafar;

Zubaidah bint Jaafar's legacy continues to live on today for visitors of Mecca & Medina. It was her generosity that resulted in the construction of wells & other water reservoirs for pilgrims on their way to Hajj.
It was her who noticed that the drought was so bad while her visit to Mecca, that even the Zamzam wells were down to a trickle of water. She called engineers and asked them to deepen the Zamzam wells to increase their supply, hence improving the water supply throughout Mecca.
5. Nana Asma'u;

Nana Asma'u was literate in 3 languages & fluent in 4. She memorized the Qur'an, was knowledgeable in Hadith & versed in military knowledge. One of her most impressive feats was developing a whole educational technique that allowed people who were illiterate
learn basic religious knowledge.

The system was called Yan Taro (meaning to gather together) and is still used in parts of Nigeria and the United States.

Where are the Northern Nigerian women? This is a Queen you should emulate, especially in this time of our history.
6. Uns bint Abdelkarim;

Uns bint Abdelkarim received several ijazat, or certifications in Islamic knowledge throughout her life. If her husband, Ibn Hajar, had a higher rank in the chain that led back to the Prophet, he would re-study the books with her in order to grant her a
a higher certification.

She became a scholar and began teaching in the mosque of Amr Ibn al-As in Egypt- one of few women to ever do so. Her study circles would draw in thousands of students!
7. El Qutlugh Khatun;

Although her grandfather, Hulagu Khan, had destroyed the Abbasid caliphate and brought an end to the golden age of Islamic civilization, El Qutulugh embraced Islam with fierce enthusiasm.

She was known to be generous and gave good advice to Muslims.
On her way to Hajj, she donated 30,000 dinars in charity.

Her trip to Mecca must have been quite a spectacle, as she led traditional ring hunts in the desert. She hunted with remarkable passion and skill.
8. Rabiah al-Adawiyyah;

Rabiah al-Adawiyyah was a young orphan when she was sold into slavery. She would spend her days fasting and her nights in prayer. When her master overheard her du'a one night, and saw the light illuminating around her, he set her free.
She was a woman who has been recorded in history as a leader and exemplar of asceticism. In fact, Imam al-Ghazali recorded her answer about Paradise in his book "The Revival of the Islamic Sciences." She had said, "First the neighbor, then the house."
This quote means that her first and foremost goal was to please Allah and worship Him for the sake of His pleasure alone, rather than for the promise of Paradise.

Anytime we call for a Better Nigeria, let us remember to call for Better Nigerians. We are the instruments for every misdoing, corruption & misappropriations that made Nigeria what is it today. How many of us can swear that they have never stolen or taken anything from
public wealth under their watch? How many of us can swear that they have never aided someone to corner some monies belonging to the Nation, or assisted someone in doing what he or she knows is wrong? How many of us out of the 200 Million Nigerians we are?
Our leaders are a reflection of ourselves, in many cases worse. You give someone a Contract to renovate an apartment for you while you are abroad. He made the estimates, sent the list to you and you wired the money to his account out of trust. He lied. He cheated.

Dear Arewa,

Another day, another challenge. We didn't just wake up to this sorry-state of affairs we find ourselves. There have always been pointers that we always have ignored. There have been prerequisites to this situation, & until we fix them, we are in for bigger surprises.
When the journey started, there was justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within the society. The Sardaunas didn't select who to send overseas to study. They didn't select who to fund & who to mentor. Many of their protégés were nobodies.
They didn't lead to enrich themselves nor did they do for the luxury (alone). Their hearts were with the people and the Northern project. Until the wicked & develish coupists killed them in cold blood, they are planning for all us to have an easy life, and for everybody.

I don't want to put all the blames on President @MBuhari, but I will have to. He is the C-in-C; which means; he makes the call. He decides who is fired & who remains. Not being able to fire people that fail is the peak of incompetence. Not resigning when you fail is the peak of
lack of nobility, respectability, worthiness, honourability, & integrity. The multifaceted nature of the failure of governance we are witnessing affects us all, not only the President, but anyone close to the President, or anyone with access to the President.
If we do our part, Allah is our witness. I am very sure that a lot of information do get to the President, but nothing seems to be changing for better. People are being killed daily, yet nobody is resigning, nobody is being fired nor investigated. We can't keep repeating the

Daily Hadith:13th Rabi' Al-Thani 1442 (28th November 2020)

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Was Salaatu Was Salaam 'ala Rasulillah

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

The Prophet (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) said:
"The people of Paradise will look at the dwellers of the lofty mansions (i.e. a superior place in Paradise) in the same way as one looks at a brilliant star far away in the East or in the West on the horizon; all that is because of their superiority over one another (in rewards).
" On that the people said, "O Allah's Apostle! Are these lofty mansions for the Prophets which nobody else can reach? The Prophet (SAW) replied, "No! By Allah in whose Hands my life is, these are for the men who believed in Allah and also believed in the Apostles."
