“The details revealed in Oprah’s interview with the Sussexes underscore the long and unacknowledged history of colonial slavery, white privilege, and racism in Britain, particularly within the royal family.” spiegel.de/international/…
“Royal protocol dictates that the British monarchy avoid expressing political opinions. But the addition of Meghan Markle to the royal family offered a readymade opportunity for the institution to embrace change and signal a willingness to make amends for past sins.”
“As a young, mixed-race royal couple, the Sussexes were uniquely positioned to assist the British monarchy to strengthen ties with the Commonwealth nations and offer moral leadership as Britain reckons with its brutal imperial past.”
“Protecting Meghan from the press, extending a title to her and Prince Harry’s children, and beefing up the Sussexes’ security detail would have offered guidance to a nation still in denial about its racist history and the very real dangers of white supremacy.”
“Historical amnesia about slavery and the coerced contributions of marginalized peoples to the birth of modern Britain has consequences. In July 2020, the Duke and #DuchessOfSussex called for Britain to confront its colonial past and the persistence of institutional racism.”
“With the Sussexes now out of the picture...this much-needed reckoning is increasingly unlikely to come from within the BRF. Once again, the British monarchy demonstrates that it is not only out of touch with the current generation but still quietly embracing white supremacy.”

Calling out UK journalists for cyber bullying...familiar themes.

“It felt like much of the media’s reporting of the issue played down the defamation, racism & harassment in favour of framing me as part of the woke mob – & Burchill as its victim.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
“Last week, the Society of Editors was embroiled in a row after its then-executive director, Ian Murray, claimed that the UK media “is most certainly not racist” in response to Meghan’s criticism of how she’d been treated by the press.”
“But what my experience with Burchill shows is that not only is there racism from journalists themselves, there’s also a lack of accountability more broadly within the industry.”

“So when Olivia Crellin, the founder of the PressPad Charitable Foundation (⁦@PressPadUK⁩), heard that Prince #HarryAndMeghan were interested in supporting her cause to diversify the media, it was only natural that her reaction was one of disbelief.” hellomagazine.com/royalty/202103…
"It's been so surreal," Olivia told HELLO! shortly after it was announced that #HarryAndMeghan's #Archewell Foundation had teamed up with @PressPadUK as one of its donors. "I'm still in total disbelief, just thrilled.”
“"It's been such a crazy week for so many people who have been touched by the issues that came up in the Sussexes' Oprah interview, & here we are at @PressPadUK, doing our thing as a small social enterprise...”

“the monarchy’s defenders...claim that a queen...stands above politics &...is able to unite the nation in ways a mere president never could. 1 week after The Interview, the BRF themselves have become the fracture line along which the nation has disunited.” theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
“The young and people of colour are overwhelmingly supportive of #MeghanMarkle, perfectly able to recognise the racism within the campaign of tabloid harassment that helped to drive her and Harry into Californian exile.”
“Older people, the demographic super-served by the tabloid press, are far more likely to be both hostile to Markle and blithely dismissive of her racism accusations.”

“Britain’s greatest enemy is apparently an outspoken Black woman. [...] In her descriptions of racist treatment by the public and the palace, it calls to question where in society Black women are safe if a Black member of the Royal Family wasn't.” teenvogue.com/story/meghan-m…
“If a Black woman isn’t protected even when she’s under the family’s wing, how can our non-royal citizens ever feel safe? And, how can these citizens feel safe speaking up against power? Well, maybe that’s the point.”
“The British press’s hatred toward Meghan and the Crown’s refusal to protect her seems like a sign of society’s desire to silence Black women and reveals a very painful truth about the racism embedded deep within British society: that it’s still very much alive.”

.@valentinelow shared that he knew Meghan was distraught during the summer of 2019 & had met with HR. Let’s talk about all the ways this is wrong...

- Pvt convo w/ HR is leaked to press
- Press abuse escalated
- Series of pvt jet articles about a vacay that Meghan clearly needed
He has the caucasity to suggest there’s a way in which someone could express concern over how dark #HarryAndMeghan’s child might be that wouldn’t be racist. He’s more concerned about the reputational damage to an unnamed member of the BRF from the allegation than the actual act.
He appears to be laughing during the discussion of racism. Maybe he was aghast vs. incredulous which is what it sounds like here. I’d be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but since he doesn’t believe #HarryAndMeghan were trying to protect family members maybe I won’t.

“Last wk judgment was handed down in the case of HRH #DuchessOfSussex v ANL. The DoS, otherwise known as #MeghanMarkle, was successful in her application for summary judgment in her privacy & copyright claims (save for 1 tech pt in relation to the latter)” holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2021/news/law-…
The starting pt is clear enough: we have known for a long time that personal correspondence Btwn individuals is private and there is a reasonable expectation of privacy in respect of it. That reasonable expectation of privacy can only be overcome if it is in the public interest”
“Some legal commentators are hailing this judgment as a disastrous ruling for the press & a win for PR specialists...Others...are pointing out that the correspondence in question would always have been deemed to be pvt, subject to the public interest overriding that assumption.””
