$4K is A LOT for a bike if you think of it as a bike. But if it replaces a second car, it’s the much more economical choice.

I haul two kids all around town and pay nothing — zero, zip, zilch, nada — on insurance/parking for an ebike that, unlike our car, is already paid off.

A cargo ebike is MUCH BETTER than a car in many situations. It opens up the city to families in a way a car never could.

I’ve second-guessed our decision to purchase a new car that we’re still paying off.

Our cargo ebike, on the other hand, is the best purchase we’ve ever made.

I totally get the sticker shock on a quality ebike. It’s a lot of money! Financing/government subsidizes should absolutely be part of the equation.

But I’ve never regretted our purchase for a second. In fact, we’re discussing purchasing another ebike when it’s in the budget.

Oh boy, you really want me to post photos of all the times I’ve hauled two+ weeks of groceries for a family of four on my ebike, huh?

As requested. It’s much better than using a car. I can pull right up to my door and parking is never a problem on either end of the trip. And mid-pandemic, it made it a snap to travel to grocery stores across town with shorter lines.

The thing about ebikes is that it’s not like you’re making some high-minded sacrifice purely for the good of the planet, you’re just choosing the fastest, cheapest, most enjoyable way to get around the city. Feeling smug about the environmental benefits is just an added bonus!
