Google just dropped Android 12 Developer Preview 2 on us. I've already got it booted and rooted on my Pixel 3 XL. xda-developers.com/android-12-dev…
First change I've spotted: A new widget picker in the Pixel Launcher.
Wait lol it didn't actually root yet, hold on.
There we go :)
Pixel Launcher is testing a revamped search bar that's on-device and isn't tied to the Google App. It was buggy in DP1 now it straight up crashes in DP2.
Not sure what this "no overlay" Quick Settings tile does. I suspect it's a testing feature to let you kill any SAW windows?
Not sure how I feel about this new dark theme shade. It's getting even lighter and lighter.
It's mentioned in the official changelog, but PiP stashing and double tap to resizing gestures are now official in DP2: xda-developers.com/android-12-bri…
It seems you can "unbridge" apps from specific notification listeners. I think this will let you block notification listener services from intercepting notifications from certain apps.
Android 12 DP2 has added face-based autorotation, but it's currently hidden behind a flag.
I think Android 12 DP2 has added the "Smart Forwarding" feature we found a loooonnngg time back in AOSP: xda-developers.com/android-versio…
I don't have multiple SIM cards in this device to test atm. Let me know if you can grab a screenshot!
Yeah so Google is continuing work on making Android 12 more one-handed friendly. We already caught glimpses of it in DP1 with the "silky home" flag, but there's now a bunch of other v2 layouts including for app info and the system dashboard.
"Turn screen darker" settings page has been added to Settings > Accessibility > Text and display. This just amalgamates all preferences related to contrast/size/themes.
As I mentioned before DP1 in my Material NEXT post, there are some major and some subtle changes coming to the lockscreen. The subtle changes include a slight tweak to the PIN view and also a thicc line for the pattern input.
Android 12 DP2 seems to have added the one-handed mode👀
You should no longer need to mess with any feature flags to get it working!
(I could be wrong about this. I didn't do a clean install on my device.)
I'm not sure why you'd do this, but Settings has added a toggle for flipping on/off 2G.
NVM, got screenshots but can't test w/o two SIMs. Might test later.
Android 12's hidden gaming toolbar now has a dashboard, but it's still veryyyyy incomplete. You can toggle a few settings and launch YouTube to start a live stream but not much else.
Barbet (not barbette), oriole, and raven - Pixel code-names make an appearance in the stub APK for Android Auto. Oriole and raven have previously appeared in the Google Camera app as well as a few other spots: xda-developers.com/google-pixel-6…
Speaking of Pixels, this is interesting. From the Google Photos app:
We already know the Pixel 5a is basically identical to the Pixel 4a (5G), but it could even come down to the code-name: xda-developers.com/google-pixel-5…
I wouldn't read too much into the "Pixel 5e" name, by the way. A prototype of the Pixel 5 was called the "Pixel 5s" so something like that could happen again: xda-developers.com/google-pixel-5…
It looks like it'll be an AOSP feature. It doesn't work at the moment since the RotationResolverService isn't available.
Bubbles are kind of buggy for me in Android 12 DP2, but I can now confirm that Google is indeed working on tweaking the physics of bubbles: xda-developers.com/android-12-pic…
Lots of parameters (stiffness, damping, friction, etc.) being tweaked in SysUI's new StackAnimationController class
Woohoo, thanks to @Wander1236 we got more features working. Here's the updated "People Space" widget!
As spotted by @kdrag0n, the monet theming system now affects more places, including deeper in Settings.
Google is testing a radical redesign of the lockscreen PIN input in Android 12 DP2.
Speaking of radical changes to the lockscreen in Android 12, here's a first look at a sweet new lockscreen animation that Google is working on. Credits go to Telegram user kampotik (h/t @kdrag0n)!
Here's another look at the new lockscreen animation, this time through a video showing the actual device (a Pixel 4 running Android 12 DP2). Again, credits go to TG user kampotik!
Yet another hidden Android 12 UI change found in DP2. I knew Google was working on this but haven't been able to enable it yet. However, @kdrag0n once again came to the rescue!
Here's a new overscroll animation and ripple effect for taps.
The ripple effect seems to be intentionally designed this way. From the SDK doc: "Ripple style where a circle shape with a patterned, noisy interior expands from the hotspot to the bounds"
There's going to be a ton of tweets about the #madebygoogle event. I'm putting all the info on the Pixel 4 into one article (currently ~2.7k words) and will post any new findings from on the floor/with the demo devices in this thread.
Wow, I didn't think they would actually talk about Live HDR+ today. Thanks to @cstark27 for his help on uncovering that!
That Pikachu Soli demo is in the live wallpapers app.
